Quilt for husband

1 Attachment(s)
My husband always complains that regular lap rugs are too small, so I decided to make a big one for him! He picked out the fabrics (top and backing) and the quilting thread (a lovely blue/brown variegated from Superior Threads). I started this in January during a class with Melissa Corry, and it is from her book "Irish Chain Quilts." It is just over 60x80", and I defy DH to say it is too small! I used a wool batting and a medium sized meander to keep it nice and puffy.Pam

Ohh I love this Pam! You did a great job, and I love, love verigated threads too!

jbening 03-24-2016 09:55 AM

That is so pretty and a nice variation on the usual Irish chain.

beautiful quilt - great job! I know what you mean about bigger size quilts. My son is 6'4" and he wanted a quilt for on the couch that would cover him from his nose to his toes.. which was a big quilg

Jingle 03-24-2016 01:26 PM

Beautiful quilt, and your hubby can stay all cozy now. :)

That is a lovely quilt for your DH, with good fabric and design choices, well made. My DH also knows what he wants: an oversized, quilted, Quillow-type pocket for his toes. I agree with your DH, a lap quilt that only covers the lap is not a great deal of use for those of us who want to warm legs and chest as well.

I love this! Your husband has great color sense. I'm sure he'll enjoy it immensely.

It's a beautiful quilt! And 60x80 should be large enough for anyone.

A lovely generous size quilt. I also like a largish "snuggle quilt" that I can pull up around my chin and have plenty around my feet and a good tuck in around the sides.

twinkie 03-25-2016 03:56 AM

I love this design. Your color choice is lovely.

Karamarie 03-25-2016 04:41 AM

Hubby should be very happy with that.

quilterpurpledog 03-25-2016 04:43 AM

Perfect quilt for a loving husband who needs a bit more quilt size to be comfy. The pattern and your fabric choices are great. He has a good perspective. I also enjoy the verigated threads for quilting. They can add an interesting element to a quilt.

wolph33 03-25-2016 04:55 AM

Looks wonderful,he should love it

coopah 03-25-2016 05:02 AM

Manly, but beautiful! Very nice! If it's too small for him, I can give you my address.:D:D:D

tessagin 03-25-2016 05:11 AM

NatalieF 03-25-2016 05:11 AM

gorgeous work, and your hubby obviously has a great eye for picking fabrics!

mjmachin 03-25-2016 05:14 AM

What a great quilt!! Your hubby should loves this one. Keep up the good work!

CanoePam 03-25-2016 05:26 AM

Thanks for the nice comments. I wish I had taken a closeup picture of the fabrics. The brown is a moose print and the blue has trees and water, both in a watercolor style, muted and gorgeous. The red center square is a slightly striated fabric that reminds me of the red rocks of southern Utah, one of our favorite places. I think this quilt is an example that "manly" quilts are more a manner of appropriate selection of fabrics than the quilt pattern itself.
