Quilt from men's shirts
3 Attachment(s)
Kay made this quilt from men's shirts. She used the shirt button plackets for borders around the outside of the quilt. Kay also made use of shirts by piecing the quilt backing from them. The Nine Patch and Snowball blocks made up very nicely for a man's quilt. We chose Hobbs 80/20 batting and custom quilted it with continuous curve on the nine patch blocks and echo stitching on the snowball blocks

This is a great looking quilt!!!A thrift shop in our town had a 10 cent clearance sale on everything in the store--this makes me wish I had gone and stocked up on men's shirts! Would you share the instructions for doing the button-placket border? Very original--I love it!!!

It's a great quilt! I have bought a lot of shirts, but haven't yet started one. The quilting on it is just the way I like it: not overpowering the quilt, but adding dimension and interest.

What a great idea using the button plackets. I also have made quilts from shirts and have a jar full of the buttons but never thought of using the button strips in this way. Thanks for a great idea! Love the quilt design as well.

Very well done, both piecer and quilter. I too love the idea of the button plackets in the border. Very clever use of a part of the shirt usually tossed away when turning into a quilt, and adds tons of visual interest.

Was it quilted using a LA machine? Does having the buttons on the border pose a problem when LAQ'ing?
