Don't look at it too long or you might lose your vision. I am at a loss as to how to quilt this. I thought to echo the lines on the prints but that seems like an awful lot of work for a quilt that's ALL prints.
It's made mostly from Hawaiian shirts and skirts. It's making me dizzy every time I look at it. And yes, that's an raggedy old blanket I'm using as batting. |
I think an all over meander would work best. The quilting isn't really going to show up much with the quilt so busy already.
I like the way you have used the fabric. |
That is fabulous. I would quilt with allover stipling
Ditto

I vote meander, too. It doesn't need anything but to be held together.
Cool prints! |

I'd do an allover meander as well.

I'm going along with everyone else as far as meandering pattern, it'll give some movement to all the angles of the piecing. Gotta love those great Hawaiian prints!
I would either meander or SiD it.
I too would do a big wide meander.
Meander.
Meander.
I would meander. What a fun quilt!
I would either meander or do straight diagonal lines crisscrossing the quilt.
Well I am going to be different....the big flowers just jump out at me and I would chose to do various sized flowers. Maybe adding some leaves and fun curly stems. The bold and bright fabrics are fabulous, you created a grand quilt. Thank you for sharing.
It's nice
How is the quilt going to be used when done? Since I don't think any quilting will show up well due to the fabrics, why not tie it if it's going to be used as a throw/bed quilt? Little ties of white pearl cotton would blend right in to the top. Which, I like, BTW. Are you keeping or giving away?
Ditto on the meander ... your extra work of another design won't really show up.
That being said, you might want to consider what the backing fabric is. If it's plain, you might want quilting that will "show" and quilt it with the backside as the front. Eg. butterflies? or another all over design that works with the theme! Or if the back is another print, again, you may want to flip it over as the front, and outline the print design. Eg. if it keeps with the teme and is an all over hawaiian floral, then you might to outline the large flowers |

My first thought was stipple, but this would also work with all over interlocking squares of different sizes. I saw it on a blog, and it was very striking.
Love it! Love it! I just adore bright colored quilts.
absolutely gorgeous! love all the fabrics. you'll have to go with the experts on the quilting as that is so not me. just love your quilt top.
You could do a quarter inch on all the blocks. Have fun. Looks great.
Thanks for the suggestions. The backing is fairly muted, using a sheet with a sunset and ocean scape. I plan on giving it to my SIL, who is a Hawaiian native and granola bar. She was ready to take it months ago, in fact if I gave it to her without quilting, batting or backing, she''d be just fine with that.
;) |
Would a Hawaiian type design, the size of the block, that is quilted over each block work?
Meander would look great
Meandering will be fine! Great reuse of fabric!
I'm going to be different too :) I'm also thinking about the back since the back is plain.
The center squares has a design .. outline it with stipple meander. In the row of squares immediately surrounding the center put a vine or something. The outer squares you can SID. |
How about a simple stitch in the ditch.

;) That way your SIL can have a nice reversable one to enjoy. |
It is fun.
Quilting won't show so do a simple overall. |
I would pick an overall design...not meandering...I'll get bombarded...but to me meandering is what you do when you can't think of anything else to do.
Quilt from the back!
What clever idea to use Hawaiian shirts. I would tie it.
A SUPER-WILD QUILT! And it is terrific.
Interesting colorful quilt. I really like it. I ditto the meandering quilting.
Spirals would look great with this quilt;)
I would do all over big meandering.
If you decide to do an all over meander or stipple and the fabric is giving your eyes a problem, you might think about turning it over and quilting from the plain back. You would have good control over the outcome that would be visible (i.e. plain backing) and your eyes would be protected!
