What a great idea! Recently a gentleman donated 2 full boxes of doilies (he had recently lost his wife) and we have been putting them on our white elephant table a few at a time. Think I'll run to the store and buy up the lot!!!!

When I need to cut the block in two I make sure the doilies are well glued and well sewn before I cut it....I haven t had any problems with them yet, but I haven t washed any of the quilts .

I especially like the red one! It really shows off those doilies. I have a question--surely you can't cut the doilies or they would unravel?? Or do they stay once sewn into a seam. Or do you just leave the doily as is and it is underneath the piece next to it? Wonderful way to showcase these handmade items that were used more frequently in previous generations! Thank you for sharing.

Your quilts are beautiful. I really like the quilt using the embroidered items. This summer I took a class from Kelly Cline called Vintage Quilting on using doilies, embroidered works, tea towels, ect. It got me excited for using antique needlework items for quilting, we used our domestic machines and rulers that she has developed. Class was really fun but way to short, I'm hoping she comes back to teach more. Time to hit the antique stores in the town where I live, you have inspired me.

Thanks for the pictures and sharing your work. The quilts you’ve made are so lovely and show creative ways to use doilies and embroidery. You are inspiring! You’ve stirred some of my brain cells so I can use the doilies and embroidery that I have inherited, but also made. Thanks!!

I`d consider it as long as there is no hurry.

I have so many inherited embroidered family linens over 115 years old that I have kept....dresser scarves, hand towels, hankies, luncheon/dinner/cocktail napkins, pillowcases, even tablecloths....and never use.

WE NEED TO TALK! I might consider sharing some of them in trade for your piecing; would it interest you? I have the product but no time.
