I made these wallhangings using Karen Combs Quilts of Illusion technique (instructions, fabrics, and templates are available on her website). Each block has a light, medium, and dark side, and the shapes are diamonds, not squares. The blocks can be arranged in many different designs. It is a challenge to find three shades of each color. Karen Combs has fabrics for sale with four shades of one color running the length of the fabric.

How beautiful you quilts turned out! Karen Combs came to our guild and I took her workshop! It was ever so fun.

Wow! Usually I can look at a block and sort of figure out how it was done--I have no clue how you did those but they are beautiful and your work is incredible. I love stuff that makes me go "hmmm" and you did!

JoAnn...your work is dream of sheer illusion!!!!!

I am attempting my first real quilt and trying the tumbling blocks....

One day, I hope to turn out a piece of work as nice and perfect as your quilts of illusion.

Below are my starter blocks....

ckcowl 08-16-2010 02:27 AM

i made 5 of those blocks but they have been just hanging around...when i showed them to my hubby he decided i needed to make big bows for the blocks and make them into christmas gifts...then i showed them to my mom who wanted me to make them into pillows...neither of these visions came close to what i had planned for them, so now, they have just hung around my sewing room for 3 or 4 months...one of these days i will turn them into something....i sure love yours!

farscapegal 08-16-2010 02:59 AM
