Razorback Theme Denim Cathedral finished
5 Attachment(s)
I finally finished this denim cathedral ..its been over a year in the making, but its done. And i doubt i will ever make another one.. its heavy, bulky, and my arms and shoulders hurt just maneuvering this bad boy to quilt it on a domestic machine.. My in-laws passed 2009& 2010...So i used moms, dads and hubby's jeans to make this one, paint and grass stained jeans all were used.I wanted this one to keep his parents memory of their life to be kept alive if you get my meaning...... darling is a Razorback fan and i was fortunate with the help of fellow Qb's Yosamitesa & SheriR to obtain the Arkansas fabric...
The beginning was easy... Sew circles ( i have a GO so it was a breeze to cut) .. Then began to place the fabrics... I spray glued the batting and sq in to keep it in place while i sewed.. Later i began to pin when it was getting too big and i had to man handle it a bit.. .. A wonderful friend of mine embroidered letters for me to give it that extra touch.. .. Close up of my horrible quilting.. Some sections the quilt gave way and 'fell' off the table or my shoulder from the weight and well, the quilting just continued... I left it as is, as a reminder pls when it rags NO ONE will see it anyway... .. And the whole quilt.. DONE !!!!! Im still finding threads to be snipped, but once washed AT A LAUNDROMAT (this sucker too big for my machine at home, nor do i wish to test and confirm that it will break my machine !!! ) Once washed, the raggy-ness will hide tons of flaws.. I hope.. lol .. |
I forgot to add that i used the 5inch GO circles and I seriously dont have a measurement of how big this bad boy is...
its heavy to unfold.. BUT hubby LOVES LOVES the weight... he likes weighted quilts... 18 across 22 down |
what a challenge I imagine...worth it tho' .....came out very nice
It is absolutely fabulous in every way!!
well pat yourself on the back! I did a flannel and thought it was heavy! hubby loving it makes it all worth while doesn't it?!
Wow!! Love it!!!
What a true gift of LOVE. That is simply fabulous!
Looks great. Hope you post a photo when it is ragged!
Beautiful! I haven't had the courage or the time to make a Cathedral Window, but love the pattern. I have a good idea how heavy your quilt is.
I made a denim quilt about 15 ys. ago for a twin bed, and it was heavy. Can imagine one that large the weight and carrying it around. A real keepsake! Mariah |
Well done!! It looks great and that is definately one to do in sections and then assemble.
Your quilt is great! I'm sure it's heavy & I can certainly see why your hubby loves it! Great job!
nicely done
Fantastic job! Makes me want to dig mine out of the closet and finish it.
You have done a wonderful job. I admire your patience. Thanks for showing it.
HOPE he is also a Razorbacks fan too !!
Oh my word! You have more patience than anyone I know  A true quilt of love. Simply gorgeous!
That's really nice. I love it and I'm a Texas Longhorn fan!
Pretty oh sew pretty!
Your quilt is amazing! I like the theme you chose and am impressed with the embroidered letters in the middle. Nice work!
I'm working on cutting out the denim circles now -- got a bunch of jeans from a friend and then found a stack on my closet floor to cut also. Have another 10 pair of jeans to go, then I will get the sack of jeans out of the shed and cut those up. I'm hoping to make a quilt 48 x 72. We'll see if that happens! You do give me hope though. |
hi
really like your idea.. nice |
very nice job and alot of work!!!
That looks better than I thought when I saw the first picture. Great quilt.
This is one great quilt! A true labor of love!
Amazing quilt .... and what a heart warming - and fun - story. Love your take on some of the "troubles" you had.....It's a great quilt !!
Great job! It looks great. I just finished one 17 squares x 17 square so I know how heavy they can be.... I didn't put batting in mine so that is one heavy quilt. But I like some weight to my quilts then they stay in place!! It will rag great...
Great quilt! I'm saving old jeans so I can make one these.
Nice work on your quilt!
My daughter played in the Razorback band for 4 years and has special memories of Bowl Games etc, She would love one like this. Congrats on a nice and memorable quilt.
It's beautiful! Great finish my friend. :D
Your quilt is beautiful, and I admire you for being able to finish the quilt. I agree with others about how heavy a denim quilt is. I did a twin one and vowed to never try another like that. Great job
You definitely have a great accomplishment! Congrats!
Love it! What a great way to recycle jeans!
Thanks everyone...
Yes darling is a Razor fan.. And a fan of heavy quilts.... I used the batting to make the centers 'puff' -it looked better then without it it thought... but yes this is one heavy heavy quilt and he loves it, and all the memories it tells... |
Was so happy to see your post. I am doing exactly the same thing with 6" circles and New England Patriots fabric for a great friend who is a Patriots fan. I have only done three rows (10 circles) and already can't believe how heavy it is going to be. Was so happy to hear you made yours on a domestic machine because I was beginning to wonder if I was going to be able to put 13 rows all together. Also plan to back it with fleece (no batting of course). Hope to have it finished by February 2015. If mine looks anywhere near as good as yours, Ill be happy
Very familiar with Razorbacks from attending college in Arkansas. You did a great, great job!
That is really nice. It turned out great. I have never done a denim quilt.

What a great idea for used jeans. I'm sure it's really warm as well.
Wow, this is awesome! Please post another pic when it is ragged. :)
Being from Bama, I am not a Razorback fan but I really love what you did to bring out the theme. Great job.
