As a last minute "what the heck", I entered three of my quilts in our local guild's show which was last weekend. I had never entered anything in a juried show before. Imagine my shock when I found out one of them actually won!! I got second place in the traditional pieced category. I walked right by it, too, thinking 'it's mine -- seen that before'. I knew something was up when fellow guild members were congratulating me as I was walking around looking at all the quilts on display. I'm a little sad, though, because I don't even get to keep this quilt -- it's already promised to someone else. Here's a picture of the ribbon and the quilt.

Very pretty!!! I have strips cut and some day only hope I can make something so nice :)
Beautiful. Congratulations!! Its definitely not hard to see why you won. It really is gorgeous. :)
Congratulations! How wonderful, you really deserve it.
Your quilt is very deserving of it's prize
Congratulations!!! Your quilt is beautiful :D:D:D
Holy Cow! What an awesome quilt! Of course it won a ribbon!
Congrats! *visions of this log cabin dancing in the "new project" portion of my head* |
That is striking, you deserved that ribbon, for sure. Please tell us if you got any comments. I am trying to work up the nerve to enter a few myself.
Congratulations-that's a beautiful quilt. I'm not surprised it won a ribbon.
Congratulations! Well done
You did a great job! Love log cabins and yours is beautiful!
Beautiful quilt! no wonder it won a ribbon. Love the colors and the layout is striking.
You TOTALLY deserved that ribbon! I love your quilt! Congratulations!
Congratulations !!! :-)
At least you can keep the ribbon and pictures :-P
My thought is to go ahead and enter one your quilts. You never know how good it is until you do and it really is a nice surprise to see what the judge or others think of it. Sometimes I enter one to just to get the judges critique. I think that has made me a better quilter. I like to get an experts opinion.

You could always tell the "someone else" that it is promised to that you can't give it up now that it is a ribbon winner and you would happily make them another quilt. I hope they would understand!
Thank you all for looking. I haven't received any feedback yet, but I believe that is forthcoming. I did this as a learning experience, and it certainly was. I'm already planning something for the next show, which, luckily, isn't for two more years!

Log cabin is my favorite traditional pattern, great job!
Congratulations!! Your quilt is beautiful!!
Great Job  And even though you don't get to keep the quilt , the ribbon is all yours and no-one can take that from you
Congrats on your win I knew the first time you showed us this quilt that it could be a winner and it was, how very very nice.
Congratulations a really beautiful quilt, very deserving prize!

Well done, I hope it is going to an appreciative home
Congratulations!
That is a beautiful quilt. I can see why it won. Congrats.
Very pretty quilt...and congratulations on the ribbon!!! It's really thrilling, isn't it, the first time you win one!!
A very beautiful quilt. You should be very proud.
WOW! What a beautiful log cabin! No wonder you got a ribbon. That is just gorgeous.
I am so happy for you. I love the red centers. I read somewhere that the center is supposed to represent the light of the home/cabin. I think you really did the pattern justice.
Congratulations on a quilt well done!

Congratulations on your beautiful quilt. Could you make another one to give. You didn't expect this to win and it would be nice if you could keep it. I'm a very giving person but doubt I could give a winner up but would happily put in the time and expense to duplicate it as closely as possible and give to the promised person. I'm sure they'd understand.
I'm finishing up a quilt that I believe stands a good chance to place and because of that, won't enter it into the quilt show because I know beyond a doubt my daughter in law would treasure the quilt which is for her youngest daughter and would NEVER allow my granddaughter to use or enjoy that "special" quilt if it would place. Since this quilt was made specifically for her, I'm not taking the chance as it's important to me that my children and grandchildren treasure my quilts by enjoying them to the fullest and I mean using them. They tell me they feel my love in them every time they use one and those are my blue ribbon quilts. Give it some thought. You could always put it in your will that it will go to that person or survivors once your gone but I definitely would make another one and keep this one. Just my opinion. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. |
I was going to ask, but just couldn't. It was made for a friend to celebrate the fact that he didn't die from cancer (and has been cancer-free for almost two years now...woo hoo!!!!). I know he will take care of it. I did warn him, however, that he better not go on vacation and expect me to keep an eye on the house!!! LOL!! I have pictures of it, both under construction and hanging with the award, so that's really enough. I have plans to applique the ribbon to a background and then frame it and hang it in my sewing room. Thank you for your kind words.

I agree with you totally under those circumstances. He will be so honored to get your special quilt. That truly is a labor of love and hope that he will feel every time he looks at your quilt or uses it. It definitely will be treasured and may even be worn out and that's just fine. Guess this win is God's reward to you for doing a kind and generous deed without greed. Bless you.

Thanks for making me cry!! Happy tears, though. It does make me feel good to know that some little thing I've made can make someone else feel good and safe and warm.
