The rose quilt
3 Attachment(s)
I have always wanted to do a wholecloth. I took Cindy Needham's class on craftsy.com and have been working towards it. This is not exactly wholecloth but close enough. I used So Soft fabric paint to do the roses. I dipped my brush into fabric medium and only put red on the one end working only one color of red on the edge of the rose petals leaving the centers of the petals unpainted.
The feathers are quilted so that they appear to go under the roses. I combined two stencils to get the border design and also made the feathers appear under the rose and intertwine. The same rose quilting stencil was also used for the painted roses. It is from the Stencil Company and has three sizes of roses. The micro quilting took forever. I was very lucky on the feather stencil for the border really being close in size so not much adjusting to do. |

WOW Deb! What a fabulous quilt!!! I absolutely LOVE the painted roses and the red frame; they add so much to the visual impact of the quilt. I love wholecloth quilts, but the red elements take it totally over the top!!! And the quilting designs, OH MY you have done a wonderful job on this. I've tried that Pearl & Swirl thing, and know it is NOT easy. How did you do the background fill in the center? I think has wonderful texture, but can't quite figure out how you stitched it.
You have totally inspired me to try painting some flowers. I just got some fabric medium and also signed up for a Craftsy class on painting quilts, but haven't been able to devote any time to trying it out yet; soon though! I sure wish we lived closer so we could schedule some play-dates! |
Your quilting and quilt are beautiful!

My jaw is on the floor! That is simply stunning. There just aren't enough adjectives to pay this the proper homage. :) You've done yourself (and Cindy Needham) proud! Wow, wow, wow!! I took Cindy's class recently too and I'm fixing to haunt some antique stores for old tablecloths, dresser scrarves, etc. to try out some of her designs. Can't wait to do one.
