I am a graph paper gal - I have already drawn out the centers that Judith and Nancy posted. I copy them and then play on paper until I get a feel for what I want to do. When I decide - most of the math is already done because of the graph paper. :-)

I wish I knew how to use graph paper. I hear alot of people talking about using it. Is it easy to use? I'm not very good with the math part of sewing Sounds like graph paper would help me out alot. If you get a chance maybe you could email me and explain how it works if it's not to much trouble. Give me a little tutorial on using graph paper.:)

Me Too. I'd love to get the concept too.

So, show us a picture of what you come up with!! I'm not a graph paper person, but I should be, as I can see how helpful it would be. I might try my hand at it yet!

Dragonfly Nana 08-06-2012 07:33 AM

OK, when I get home tonight I will email you a picture of what I did with Judith's with a little chat about how I do it.

I'd like to see the tutorial on graph paper use too!!

Haven't mailed my center as yet. Need to take it to the post office, but not sure if we are going into town today (11 miles from us). Sorry I'm getting my out late!

Dragonfly Nana 08-06-2012 12:24 PM

Karen, I will include you on the email

Judith1005 08-06-2012 12:43 PM

Jillnjo, I got your beautiful center. I think I know what I'm going to do. I am going to place an order for fabric today that I think will compliment your pretty center.

Dragonfly Nana, I mailed off my center to you today. Coco's bandage change went well. We go back again in a couple of days for another one.

wildyard 08-06-2012 01:34 PM

Paula can I play too? I'm interested in seeing how you do it and comparing to what I do. Hugs and smiles... [email protected]..... that's my public email.

sewhappy30 08-06-2012 01:43 PM

Mailed my center today to tam...moo.

Can't wait to get the graph paper email from you Paula. I already have some graph paper ready to get started, hope I have the right size.

erindipity 08-06-2012 02:12 PM

Very beautiful centers. I'd love to join a round robin someday, but I am new to quilting and get nervous about my border not doing the quilt justice.

jillnjo 08-06-2012 02:23 PM

Paula, if you would, I'd like your e-mail sent my way, please!! Thanks.

Wow, Judith, I just sent that Saturday. Have fun!

Today has been so gorgeous and mild-low 80's and sunny. I have my windows open, listening to the outside sounds. Makes me happy and ready to quilt!

Dragonfly Nana 08-06-2012 03:39 PM

jillnjo, did not mean to make you think I would not email you as well.
wildyard - I will cc you too. Thanks for the interest
Off to work on the mail.

Dragonfly Nana 08-06-2012 04:53 PM

OK ladies,( sewhappy30, yaya, jillnjo, and wild yard) I sent the email. Please let me know you received it. Sometimes emails with pictures get stuck.

Tam...Moo 08-06-2012 04:59 PM

I used a block design from Quilters Cache but made a few changes based on the yellow fabric I had for the border. My sister could sew any clothing item and make it fit perfectly but she was just starting to quilt. We were working together planning her first quilt and yellow and blue were the colors she chose. I am actually an HR Director but love living in a small town surrounded by cotton fields and kind hearted people.

I received it, thanks. I think I kinda understand, I'm going to test it out to see if I got it.

Dragonfly Nana 08-06-2012 06:44 PM

Gena, Let me know if you need more help.

jillnjo 08-07-2012 04:03 AM

I'll be at the mailbox, waiting, yaya!

I am also going to experiment with the graph paper. I need to pick up some colored pencils so I can play with color choices, too!

My sad looking garden is needing some attention, so I'm heading outside this morning. Everyone have a great day!

wildyard 08-07-2012 02:39 PM

Got the email and have the centers all graphed out and ready to color and play. Thanks so much for the photo and your great directions.

Just for general FYI, I don't think there is any WRONG size graph paper, since you assign the size to each square that you want it to represent.

Have fun playing with this on these blocks all, and next thing you know you will be creating your own patterns! It's so much fun!!!

I haven't mailed it yet, but will in a couple of days when I can get to the post office in the nearby town--we are camping by the lakeside at Lake Almanor in the mountains near Mt Lassen for the next week!

I have your block already, yaya!! It is a beauty. It says "summer" to me. So bright and crisp. I ordered a new border book and I am going to let the block talk to me and browse through my book. And maybe even try some graphing. The first round is not going to take a lot of time to actually sew, so I can think as long as I need to!

Dragonfly Nana 08-08-2012 02:05 PM

Judith1005, I received your center today - So pretty in person!
One of the fabrics I pulled will go nicely - the other, well, not so much.
Guess I will just have to go shopping through the 30's fabric that my LQS just got in. Don't you just feel sorry for me? :D

You are very welcome. I am glad you found them helpful.

Judith1005 08-08-2012 04:16 PM

LOL, Your too funny. That's what I did today. I took my center into the Hancocks of Paducah to play with some color options. :) Of course, I couldn't leave all that fabric behind. I just "had" to rescue some. They begged to come home with me. Honest!

Thank you. Have fun at you LQS. (I'm sure you'll hear the wispers too, They will beg to come home with you.)

Glad the centers are starting to arrive. Mine had to travel pretty far but should be there soon. I will be out of town until Sunday evening, me and my husband is taking a long needed vacation for the weekend. Not sure if I will be able to check any messages or not but I will try. If not, I will check back in when I get home Sunday.

Have fun this weekend hope everyone gets lots of sewing done!!

Krystyna 08-09-2012 02:57 AM

What wonderful fun you ladies will have with this RR. And it looks like you're off to a great start.

jillnjo 08-09-2012 05:18 AM

Judith, I picked up 2 FQ in my local shop that are a 30's print. They look like the exact blue in your center! And if they are not, more for my stash!!

Have a wonderful week-end, Gena.

Dragonfly Nana 08-09-2012 02:29 PM

Ooohh I just got home from finding a perfect match (color) that will go with Judith's center - and three FQs that will go with material I bought to make a quilt for my mom, and a FQ that goes with my Christmas panel, and.......yeah - I heard the whispers too. :D

jillnjo 08-09-2012 03:15 PM

I had a print in my cupboard that looks fantastic with yaya's red center! And some bright batik blue, too. I left them in a pile with the center and will see what happens.

Judith1005 08-09-2012 03:22 PM

Have fun Gena!!

Dragonfly Nana 08-09-2012 05:31 PM

If they make something on their own - please tell us how you got them to do it!

OK, I got up this morning and the pile hasn't done anything YET!! That comment didn't make much sense!!:p

You sew the wedges together like you would a Dresden Plate. Then you applique on a center. Adding the corner pieces was a bit tricky for me as I hate to sew curves - but I got it done.
Check out Phillips Fiber Arts - it is a free pattern from them. http://phillipsfiberart.danemcoweb.c...gree-freebies/

It's a beautiful block and your colors are superb. Um, just wondering why you didn't applique it to a square background and save yourself the hassle of setting the corner curves?

Dragonfly Nana 08-10-2012 10:20 AM

Wish I had though of that TrenbeathRanch! I just went with the corner pattern they supplied - which needed to be adjusted I might add.

Tam...Moo 08-10-2012 02:10 PM

Received Gena's center..it is gorgeous...I can't wait tot get started.

Dragonfly Nana 08-10-2012 02:39 PM

Can't wait to see what everyone adds to Gena's center. I will be the last one so it should be quite the masterpiece by the time it gets to me.

tbex 08-10-2012 06:53 PM

What is a round robin?

Dragonfly Nana 08-11-2012 05:23 AM

tbex - check out page 4
I wrote a description there.

yayaquilts 08-11-2012 08:50 AM

Just got back from my month long vacation in our RV and received tam moo's center. It's so pretty! I'm looking forward to finding some fabrics in my collection of fabrics (aka fabric stash) to coordinate. I have an idea of the border I may add, but won't decide until I have some time to work on it. Still have laundry to finish and cleaning of the motorhome that's necessary before I can play-darn. I'd much rather dive into sewing!!

Dragonfly Nana 08-11-2012 02:58 PM

Finished up two other projects today so I get to start on Judith's center tonight!
