Great blocks, and I think all beginning quilters should do a sampler to learn the different techniques. My favourite sample was Craftsy 2012 block of the month. It's free and the lessons are still available.

These blocks all look great. Your doing a real good job. Where did you get your patterns? These blocks are so nice and will make a beautiful quilt. If you think your a beginner your going to be intermediate by the time you get this done. I never worry about that. If I like a quilt I make it. If its advanced more than I ever done I'm better off for trying it.

I am a big fan of Samplers and yours is shaping up beautifully. I personally feel a Sampler is a wonderful way for a beginning quilter to be exposed to many different techniques. I started with a sampler and right after finishing it I tackled a Lone Star with set in seams, then attic windows and tumbling blocks, all with set in seams. I thank my early exposure to Sampler quilt for giving me the confidence to do any quilt pattern. You won't be afraid of anything once you complete this. Your fabrics are beautiful and you have already tackled some seriously challenging blocks, like the first one you pictured.

I really like the orange star quilt block and wonder if theres a pattern somewhere for that.

I completely forgot to answer your question for suggestions on blocks. I think something with curved seams would be great to add to your repertoire. Curved seam blocks include Drunkards Path and New York Beauty. NYB is usually paper pieced to get those nice points so you may be able to tackle two new skills with one block.

Something with set in seams (aka Y seams) would also be a good addition. Blocks that include Y seams are LeMoyne Star, Attic Windows and Tumbling blocks.

Looks like you are off to a good start. I had a difficult time with my first sampler quilt. The edges of my blocks were not straight. When I squared them up, I lost a lot of points. I finally learned from videos on Eleanor Burns videos how to get room at the edges to save my points, at least most of the time.
