Thank you for the great idea! I love that you did your blocks as QAYG.

A few years ago, I about had enough of my overflowing scrap bins! So I decided to sew random short strips together, then I cut those units into what I call "Coin Strips". After that, I started constructing 6.5" blocks using more random strips and the Coin Strips. These blocks have come in handy when I get a request for a charity or baby quilt and don't have alot of time.
Next go around, I will have to try adding thin strips and QAYG method.

Side note: This project was wonderful therapy for me when my daughter was deployed. It was "mindless" sewing that I could escape to. My sewing room was a horrible mess for a while, but I'm pleased that mess became something useful and can bring comfort to others.

Looks great! I really need to use up some of my scrap stash. I have so many scraps, like we all do. I'm going to try this year to buy only what I need to finish a quilt or project. So far I'm doing good. I want to use up a lot of what I have. This is a great start. Thank you Tartan

That is a nice way to use up bigger scraps without having to cut them too much. a nice way to have all your pretty fabrics together and enjoy. A lot of us are working on using up our scraps and I will give this a go with my bigger pieces. I am working on a French braid right now to use up everything that is 2.5" wide.

How big is this sample? The bigger it gets the better it looks. I remember Bonnie Hunter saying if you don't like the scrappy look yet, you didn't cut the pieces small enough. That is para phrasing. Maybe they do need to smaller for your eye appeal. What if you quartered what you have and gave each quarter a half turn to give the samples more action. Just a thought. I like what your trying.

I did a tutorial in the QB tutorial section under the title Scrap Buster. I did step by step pictures on the second page. Basically you use strips of batting as your foundation and you sew and flip scraps down it until you get it the length you want. For these blocks I did approx. 13 inch strips and then trimmed my block to 12-1/2 inches.
