I decided to finish the border with the leftover squares that I already had put together. I will put a black binding on it. It is going to my niece who has 3 kids, so I don't want to put to much into it.

Love it!

skydiver70 08-21-2010 04:31 PM

Wow, that is beautiful. I love the squares you put between. Are they pinwheels?

cminor 08-21-2010 04:34 PM

So it is the white that is consistant in the pinwheels that makes it look so good? I have some scraps I want to get rid of - but can't seem to find anything I like enough. I think becuase I want my "scrappy" to be controlled :) Was there anything else that you kept consistant?

ChubbyBunny 08-21-2010 04:34 PM

It's fantastic!!! I really love scrappy quilts.

So, I'm looking at this lovely quilt that has obviousely got many , many hours of physical and mental work in it then read, "I don't want to put to much in it", are you kidding me?I wish I had the patience I can see you have, so I could make something like this. Love that you are giving it to a good home where you know it will be well loved.

When you do these scrap quilts, you really have to let the control go! Actually all those "white" are various shades of beige or muslin. It seems when you use scraps a red goes right next to an orange and so on. Anything goes!!

Looks great to me. I love scrappy. Kids can really be hard on quilts, but it does my heart good to see that it is really loved. I have given many quilts to my nieces and nephews, and have repaired said quilts, and now that they are all (but one) graduated from school they received graduation quilts that I put a lot of time and effort into. They should last them until they get married, and hope fully much, much longer. Then they will get a wedding quilt. I only have 8 of them to make for.

Terri C 08-21-2010 05:23 PM

What a nice job you did on this one. I love scrappy quilts and really like the 2 blocks you used in this one, very pleasing to the eye when you look at it. Hope your sister knows how lucky she is. :)

MZStitch 08-21-2010 05:39 PM

You're work is beautiful, and I like the final border, it adds to the quilt nicely!

Got to agree with Harriet: the more you try to control your scrappy quilt, the less satisfied you are likely to be with the results.

If you have a really hard time with that idea, try putting some assorted light squares, maybe 2" or 2 1/2" in one small paper bag and assorted mediums and darks in another.

Whatever comes out is what you sew together. You'll be surprised how great it will look! Practice on a dolls quilt or something until you're ready to really cut loose LOL.

Hope you have fun!

Harriet that's a stunning quilt. You're inspiring me to start cutting my scraps into squares. What size did you use for the 16 patch blocks?
Thanks for the picture!

ganny 08-21-2010 06:00 PM

It is beautiful. I am finding that scrappy quilts take more thought than coordinated quilts. Very nice!

The squares are 2 1/2" strips, put 4 together and sub cut into 2 1/2" strips. and the half squares are 4 1/2" strips cut with the Omnigrid 96 ruler. Pattern is Patches and Pinwheels at quiltville.com

Thanks, Harriet! I'm a Bonnie fan, too, but didn't really fall for this quilt until I saw yours. Thanks a bunch!
