The scrappy string quilt I made last month I gave to my daughter. She loves scrappy string quilts. I still needed one for me so I finally finished mine yesterday and now I'm waiting for my backing/binding fabric order to be delivered.

I love your quilt, IrishgalfromNJ! What sort of fabric have you ordered for the back and binding? And how do you plan to quilt it?

beautiful string Irishgal, I have never made a string quilt all the way, I never finish them, get bored along the way, but maybe some day I'll accomplish it, I really do love the way they look.

does anyone know of the string pattern that is paper pieced, where you have one row of diamonds on their side, the next row is up and down. I would love to try that.

Yes, I would like to know how you plan to quilt it too. That always seems to be my problem. I have one started, well, at least half way finished. I cut backing squares, sew the strips on, then square up. I leave them in a plastic container and the container is most of the way filled. Yes, already thinking about how to quilt it.

I'm a simple quilter. I use a dual feed foot or a walking foot and I straight line quilt my quilts. On the last string quilt, I quilted the square grid, sid each block, then I quilted on the diagonal along one side of the middle white strips.
I ordered a solid Kona cotton for the binding and back in Honey Dew (light green), I thought that would make a nice frame around the sides. I also have a row of string blocks made to put in the center of the back to dress it up. |
Both are really great! The stars one is my favorite. I like the bright colors with the black and white.

It's really beautiful! I love string quilts.
