This is the second quilt I've tried free motion quilting. I've done a few other things, but this is the second time I've tried a project this size. I found this design in a You Tube video by Nicole Webb. She calls her design Bottoms Up Hearts. Here's the link to the video:

Mine isn't as smooth as hers. She's using a long-arm machine, and I'm using my domestic sewing machine. Still, I'm pretty happy with what I've done so far. I'm about a quarter of the way done. I'm using a pink variegated thread on top and a lavender thread in the bobbin.

Here's the whole quilt before I started quilting it

You have done a great job on the quilting. The more you do, the better it will get. You will gain some confidence in yourself

You are doing a great job & you give me hope! I do not have a long arm & have been quilting on my DSM too. I have done some things that look pretty decent & am coming along. It's nice to see others doing it too!

Kitsapquilter 05-05-2011 03:46 PM

You are doing darn good for just your second time. I have not mastered FMQ at all. And I have been making quilt tops for years. Needless to say my stack is growing of quilts that need to be quilted. Wish I could do one or two as well as you are doing that one!!!

catrancher 05-05-2011 04:04 PM

Thank you for your kind comments. It's very empowering when it goes well. I'd like to be more proficient, but everybody starts somewhere, I figure.

I think you have done a wonderful job. Isn't it rewarding to complete the whole quilt by yourself?

Looks great to me! I too just started trying FMQ and have been practicing on small projects. Also using a home sewing machine. It is hard! I'm not as good as you yet, but practice makes perfect. Keep it up!

It looks wonderful. I still don't have the courage to try this.

Az Quilter 05-06-2011 04:54 AM

Very nice work, especially for your second quilt! Keep it up and pretty soon you'll amaze yourself and how good you get. You're right where I was a couple of years ago, and it's obvious you have a talent for FMQ. Can't wait to see more of your work. :)

BTW, hope you don't mind that I bookmarked your post; this heart design will look great on a pink and black quilt I'm doing for my granddaughter. Thanks so much for the link!
