You might try looking at your rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) for the percentage. Some are 70% and some are 90%. You might get different amounts of bleed with the different percentages. Maybe I'll experiment a little this weekend.

Really great idea.... I have to try that!

This sort of looks like the effect you can get with the VERY expensive Tsuzenko inks.

I wonder if cheap vodka would work as well as rubbing alcohol?

I can feel another experiment coming on. If the ink doesn't bleed you can drink what's left in the bottle and it will look like it did. Just kidding. I don't have an artistic bone in my body so I don't think any amount of ink diffusion will help my best efforts. I hope to see more great stuff from the rest of you.

Your quilt is beautiful. That's a great idea thanks for sharing it. I might have to have my day care kids 'paint' some pictures for me...

Ahhhh, but you'd have to beware of the quilt police!! They might get you for drinking and drawing.

So thanks for the fun idea. I went and bought permanent markers (an 8 pack for 4 bucks at walmart, part of the back to school sale, if anyone else is in need) and some rubbing alcohol. I had tons of fun. First I used some muslin and man it really bled. Then I tried some other fabric and a little less rubbing alcohol :) Anyways lots of fun. I made 4 different pieces. Thanks for the entertainment :)

I ran a chemical warehouse for the University of Illinois for years and 90% alcohol would be 180 proof. I don't know how strong vodka comes but . . . . .
