I find it interesting that so many of us choose to make large quilts for our first ones. I remember when I was machine quilting my first one, queen size, trying to push it through the machine and saying to myself, what were you thinking making such a big first quilt.

this is my first ever quilt 1971 and I still have the magazine that I got the pattern from McCall's Needlework and Craft magazine 1971 Spring/Summer
Now wish I had done it in the muti color but at the time I was into blues. Tried to post this before and it wasn't working so will try to put the picture within the post

I had to laugh at you comment about getting the fabric collecting down first! It took my sister in Montana a few years to get me to come out for a quilt show. I took a quilt class with her that first time (didn't know beans about quilting then!), came home, took a couple of baginners' classes using Alex Anderson's book "Start Quilting With Alex Anderson" and the rest is history. I have fabric for quite a few prjects and and have a number of WIPs....plus the fact we are sorting and packing and getting ready to move. I will have a room to call my own for sewing once we are settled, though. As it is now, I have to set my stuff on the kitchen table whenever I want to work on it!

what a wonderful bunch of quilts...... I don't have my first quilts anymore to many years have gone by and the kids have worn them out.

great job everyone and the variety is something else not one quilt alike.

A beautiful first quilt, made more wonderful because your Aunt started it and allowed you to finish it. Must have taken quite a bit of determination for a young girl in High School. My hats off to you.

Good choice, Sharon. You can stop whenever you choose with a Cathedral Window. I started one years ago, got tired of it, and it's still waiting for me to finish. It's the only one I never finished. I don't even know where I hid it! Good for you for finishing such a large quilt as your first quilt! Blue is my favorite color, so of course I love it!
