I truly wish I had pictures of the first quilts I made...they were made by cutting each 6 inch block with scissors and sewing the squares together into crazy patchwork strips. The batting was an old wool "Army" blanket that my mom bought at a rummage sale for a dime and the backing was some outing flannel mom got at the 5 and Dime store at 3 yards for a dollar! I'm 63 and when I made this first quilt I was 10! I think that was the only quilt I made until I took up quilting in the 70's as a project to entertain my DB's 3 children. Each cut out (with scissors) 6 inch blocks, sewed them into strips, etc. Backed with flannel at $1.29 yard and the batting for the 3 quilts were an old chenille bedspread, another blanket from the Goodwill store and some flannel sheets! I think we got the patchwork fabric out of my mom's "rag" bag and used fabric from the clothes the kids and their dad had either outgrown or worn out. I love the memories of these NOT SO PRETTY quilts. I wish I had pictures!

Took some classes, developed my passion and have done lots since. I'll attache a picture of one of the first quilts I made in a class I took way back when.

Lover's Knot Quilt...not my first quilt but maybe my second or third???

My first quilt is my avatar. It was a memory quilt for my son and daughter-in-law and I used pictures of all of us, inclulding my 3 grandson's, having fun together. Used transfer paper for photos and transferred onto cream colored egyptian cotton. It came out great, so what the points did not match up. They all love it.

I'm not sure which should count as my first. The Irish chain was the first I ever attempted, but the wall hanging was the first I ever completed.

This is my first ever quilt.... made a few years ago. I drew the pattern up myself, then with a pen and ruler drew all the squares on the back of the fabric and cut them out with scissors. I sewed it all together using the lines as a guide, and backed it with an old black bed sheet. I gave it to my son, who is now 10, and he still loves it.

I cringe when I think of the techniques I use, but it still came out pretty good! lol

Oops, the colours are much brighter than that, they're not at all faded.
