Last week or the week before I asked on the Main page about the Snippets technique. Our guild has an on-going year long Challenge to produce blocks using a given technique on a theme that each member of the guild has chosen for herself. My theme is Chickens (don't ask!). So here is the picture of my Snippets chicken and my other chickens from the guild challenge......

Circles and Curves --all the fabrics and stitching have circles and/or curves

Holy moly that's some tiny snippets....very cute chicken as well as other blocks. How did you secure all the feathers

scowlkat 03-01-2011 11:52 AM

So cool!

I ironed strips of Heat and Bond lite to the top part of a narrow strip of fabric. That was the top part of the "feather" adheres but the bottom end is free from the fabric.

I estimate there are about 500 little pieces of fabric - the block measures about 9 in. X 9 in..

tealfalcon 03-01-2011 12:10 PM

Wow bravo.....you have way more patience then me lol

mollymct 03-01-2011 12:10 PM

brookemarie19 03-01-2011 02:11 PM

My goodness... I just looked at your reversable applique and must say I am totally impressed! I am amazed! I've never even heard of snippets and have to say that I'm sure that took you FOREVER to do, but it definitely was worth it to get a chicken like that. Keep at it and your quilt is going to look awesome!!!

darlin121 03-01-2011 02:13 PM

The chicken is soooo cute! I love the fact that they 'feather' at the bottom.

DeneK 03-01-2011 04:41 PM

What a cool idea that your guild came up with and you are so creative in tackling each month's assignment. LUV your chickens.

jdiane318 03-01-2011 05:03 PM

All your blocks are so cute, the first one must have taken a long time to make the snippets as well as placing them. How did you attach them. I love the Mother hen and chick, one, too. These are just great works.

IBQUILTIN 03-01-2011 05:04 PM

What fun this challenge must be. Your snippets are wonderful. Enjoy the whole process

mamaw 03-01-2011 06:03 PM

Love, love, love that adorable snippet chicken!!! lol

quilter on the eastern edge 03-01-2011 06:10 PM

Thanks to you all for the compliments! I have fun doing these blocks even though they are time-consuming. Our challenge for this month is paper piecing. :| I've never done paper piecing so this should be interesting!!

Scrap Happy 03-01-2011 08:12 PM

500 snippets I am impressed and that is one great looking chicken! :) The mother and baby chicken block is so sweet. Love these blocks and looking forward to seeing your PP chicken.

Very nice….Question….When you wash the quilt will the feathers fray like with a rag quilt?

caliquocat 03-01-2011 08:31 PM

Very clever fashion on your snippit chick.

HummerGardenCrafts 03-01-2011 08:32 PM

I went online and did a search for quilted chickens and used some of the pictures that I found. Then I adapted the picture to fit the technique that I was going to use. The hardest part for me was to figure out how to adapt the pattern from the picture. Once I had my head around the process, the rest was easy.
