Here are my pictures again with and without sashings. I'm not too comfortable with either of them. I might cut out some white sguares and place them alternately with the coloured blocks and see how it goes. What do you think? Thanks so much for your comments. I have no black material or I might try that as some of you have suggested. TQ.

IMO, it needs color for the sashes. Maybe a stripe? That's way out, don't know your comfort zone!!
i like it with the sashing
I like it better without, but it's strictly your choice. There is no right or wrong.
do you have yellow for sashing?
although, i like the first pic without any sashing - but i'm not a sashing type of girl any way. |
I like it with the sashing. love the bold fabrics.
I understand your dilemma...I am doing a random scrappy and together they didn't look right so I am sashing them in red. That being said, I think yours will look great "unsashed" (not sure that's a word!). Then maybe a thick white border and then a thin border of individual squares going round, then another white border and bind in red or scrappy.
Whatever you choose it will be really pretty, you have some lovely fabrics there. Ultimately I think YOU have to feel comfortable with the design. Whatever you decide I think it will look great...so keep updating us...you know how we love pictures. |
I like it both ways.
Try black or dark blue sashing
When I look at the last pic. the blocks look like flags, flags and more flags. =) Lol
I'd go for the white between the blocks & use red if not for a border then for the binding.
as said before it looks great either way. to my mind tho I think I would go for the sashing take a bold colour from the fabric add a white border then the coloured border and a white border then maybe a fine !/2 inch coloured border to finish it. Just My thoughts.
I love it with the white sashing. Looks like some of the "modern" quilts that are everywhere. Just do some straight rows of quilting and you'll have a beautiful new quilt. Thanks for sharing
Push the blocks into groups of 16 - A 16 patch???, then use the white sashing on your new bigger blocks - maybe with some bright cornerstones. Do you have enough of the green hibiscus print for cornerstones?
I like the white sashing. To finish it up I'd try a wide border of either the red or blue, then an inch or so of white. Bind with red or blue. There is a lot of movement in this quilt. I like it!
I love it without any sashing...its just a personal preference.
I like it both ways, but I prefer it without the sashing; I think the way the bright florals look when they're all together is quite striking.
But I don't think you can go wrong either way. |
Looks great both ways, I personally prefer the first.
I think you need a contrasting color for the sashing. Currently the white blocks merge with the white sashing.
What about black sashing? That would make all of the blocks pop! The right shade of yellow (can't be too pastel) would work too, I think. |

I like it both ways also.
I like this idea.

I'd try with black sashing, maybe just one inch at the most. I would try 4 units sewn together and sashing then. just cut a couple of strips of black and present it to see how you like it.
I like the first photo the best.
I like all the suggestions. But I was thinking how nice it would look if some of the blocks were turned on point as well.
Sashing definately. Like the idea of some blocks on point too.
I like it!! I love sashing between vibrant blocks! I think it makes each block stand on it's own! I agree that a border of red or blue would be awesome!
Better without the sashing! Love it!

And when you do, make sure you don't have any of the light colored blocks on the outside. They call this "the missing tooth" look when a color blends in with the sashing too much. Liked the idea of a yellow sashing too..... |

I like them both. You could try setting the same blocks diagonally from each other (like a Trip Around the World).
I agree with you. It seems to get lost with the white. Would you have a very soft yellow to put with it?
The idea of putting several together and then a border in white and then more blocks with a border in white might work. |
I love it with the white sashing. I love color on white. Looks great!

I too am with the 16er's. It consolidates and also breaks up the prints, if that makes sense.
I like it as it was, no sashing, at least not white.
I like the one with the sashing - easier on the eye.
And FWIW, I think the four corners should be the same colour. If each of the corners has a red block, or a green block, or a blue block, it makes it more cohesive to me. But then again, I'm a bit OCD about that sort of thing! :P |

I like it without the sashings. It is lovely with just the blocks. Maybe a border using one of the colors in the blocks.
Here is a pic of my crumb blocks with just a border around them. It's 42 blocks..6 across and 7 down. I didn't think it would look right without sashings but I like it with just a border. Maybe you could audition some solid color fabrics as borders with your blocks just to see how you like it. Perhaps it won't work but it's worth a try. Good luck and let us know how it works out. Have a great day. crumb block quilt |
I like the suggestion of alternating with plain blocks and putting them on-point. Else, colored sashing with white triangles and with white cornerstones which would add a star into the design.
