Slowly but surely I'm working my way through my Christmas projects. Today I finished up our new Christmas Tree Skirt. I'm really pleased with how it looks. This project really taught me the importance of keeping my seam allowances constant!
I used the 10 degree wedge ruler and a free pattern that I found here: http://www.sulky.com/project/treeskirt/ I modified it some - I'm not really a ruffle kind of girl, so I added a row instead. I also increased the number of colors but at the same time decreased them into color-coordinated groups so the spiral would be more pronounced. I saw a picture of one made like mine on the web and figured out my modifications from that. Anyway - here it is. Thanks for looking! Spiral Christmas Tree Skirt |
Yeah for you! You have done what so many of us keep saying we're going to do. I love this pattern, I think this may be the one I want to make.[I will make one, given enough time, really I will...] Yours is beautiful, slip out during the night, I'll bet you catch your tree dancing in her beautiful skirt!

Thanks everyone for your nice comments! It's nice to be able to show my projects off here for people who understand what they are and what goes into them.
My husband just doesn't get it. When I was piecing the top, I showed it to him and told him it was going to be a Christmas Tree Skirt. Either he wasn't paying attention (probably) or he didn't hear the word "tree" (maybe) or both (likely). The first words out of his mouth were... "Oh... who is going to wear that?" Needless to say - I don't look to him for positive feedback about my projects! I think maybe he'll get it when he sees the skirt on the tree. |
WOW, you did a awesome job.
i have got to try the spiral pattern. Merry Christmas |
Just beautiful!
|
Beautiful!
|
It's gorgeous!
I made one just after Christmas last year. Same here, didn't want the ruffle, but did add a wide border so it would be larger. I had some scraps left that I made matching stockings with. This is mine: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-34486-1.htm |
DJ, really like your tree skirt also. I agree I like the border better than the ruffle.
|
I just got the ruler and pattern in the mail, no I am nervous about picking out material. Do u pick out dark to light?..........Michele thanks for your help
|
Love it!

Very nice skirt, I think it looks better without the ruffle. Your tree will look beautiful with this.

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing

Lara, question: since you used 9 fabrics instead of the 4 in original pattern I assume you used each fabric once in the strip sets. Did you just move the first 4 down (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 then 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,1 etc). If not would you mind sharing you method? If it shouldn't go here a PM if you have time to unchain from your machine and don't mind. Thanks!

I think it's OK to share here - I guess I'll find out if it's not! Yes, I used each fabric once in each set of 9 strips and I prepared 9 sets of strips. Half of the WOF is more than enough for each set because you cut only 4 wedges from each set of strips. The sets are ordered as follows: 123456789 234567891 345678912 456789123 567891234 678912345 789123456 891234567 912345678 Hopefully that makes sense with the pattern. If you do it this way, you need enough fabric to cut 5 WOF strips of each of nine colors. You'll have lots left over - reverse wedges and end pieces - to make a table runner or stockings or something. I hope you do it! I'd love to see it! |
Beautiful!! :D:D:D
