String Quilt Revival in blue

1 Attachment(s)
Went and bought the book after Charisma posted a picture of one of the quilts she had quilted for someone, so had to try it. Got into all of my scraps and had mostly blues. I will make another one, enjoyed the process and it was relaxing to be free form. Do know for the next one I will do more contrast between the starpoints and the strips. Only had enough scraps for 9 blocks, so now it mesasures 36 x 36. Will add borders and have a pretty cool baby quilt. Enjoy......and try it!

That's how I started quilting. Many a baby has one of my string quilts. I love yours.

elizajo 05-21-2012 03:01 PM

I love it! I'm making a scrappy blue quilt right now, too. At first I was unsure, because the blues I could find to buy were more vibrant than my previous one. Yours has such a nice variety of blues, with some great vivid blues. It looks so lively!

Neesie 05-21-2012 03:31 PM

Very pretty! I love the depth of the blues!

lollygagging 05-21-2012 03:39 PM

I think this is really beautiful. Im making this for my Son and future DIL for their wedding gift, its called "Diamonds are Forever" I love it! Did you use the mesh stabilizer? I couldnt find any, so Im using a light weight stabilizer...HOWEVER...I noticed it shrinks up a bit. So if anyone else tries this, make your squares a little bit bigger than what it calls for, so you can trim down to be exact. Also, I dont know why YET but the center piece you start with sometimes are not matching up??? I dont get it ....YET. ANYWAY...I think yours is awesome. Great job!

I couldn't find the stabilizer either, used sulky but it is too high. Found some unfusible interfacing that I am going to try on the next one. The sulky pulled up too, but actually it worked out, just made sure i was at least half an inch over on my strips and could square them up. Not having the interfacing in the seams made it lay better. My centers of the star points did not always match up, but that adds to the charm (least that is my story).

Beautiful...your colour choices are very striking. My DH walked by as I was admiring your quilt and said and I quote " That one almost wants to make me learn how to quilt" He was quite impressed with the star and shadow effect you had. Awesome job! But do I want him quilting? LOL!!!

The no show mesh stabilizer is available @ www.stripsandstrings.com The beauty of string quilts is nothing is suppose to match. The blue combination is dynamic!

AZ Cottontail Quilter 05-22-2012 06:08 PM
