I love scrappy quilts and am working on one that is foundation pieced to a diamond shape piece of muslin and then the pieces are sewn together on the angle. Looks great and is so much fun to do at night while I watch TV. i can sew 3 diamonds or twenty.. just whatever strikes me.

I would love to try this quilt and assume it's easily done without a pattern. Do you sew random widths to a foundation fabric or paper piece? Or are the strips a measured width. What is the finished size of one block?

The black really sets off the colors beautifully.

Love your scrappy quilt...... I too am a scrappy quilter and yes they can be addicting...... to date I have done 8 scrap quilts along with the other quilts I have done. Keep on scappin. :D :D

The strips are different sizes. 2 1/2 is the largest I would go. You can make the blocks any size you want. Thanks for liking it

I use reg. computer paper out of my printer. Just adjust your stitch length smaller so it makes ripping the paper easy.

The string quilts look great! I would like to know exactly how did you do yours as far as the colors. Did you plan a direction of fabric families?Or just reach in and pull out a scrap?? I know the courthouse steps had some planning (it looks great too!) but, on the basic string quilts, what thought in the color did you do?Thanks Skeat

That string quilt reminds me of something I saw on one of the quilting TV shows eons ago. It was quilting that was done a very long time ago. They used newspapers as the foundation (original size of the pages) and left the newprint in the quilt for insulation. Has anyone ever seen this (or am I dreaming)? Wonder what using unused newsprint (obtained from the newpaper office: sold or given in roll ends) would do. Seems the newsprint would eventually dissolve in washing.

I use regular printer paper as stabelizer for my baptismal bibs. The large needle perforated the paper enough that it rips right out.

I just put in whatever I picked up. After you square it up it turns out so pretty

This is the pattern that my guild used for soldier quilts. They really are colorful and we give them to returning vets. My DD and I quilt them and some member of the guild binds them. We must have done 20 so far.
