Stripes Quilt

1 Attachment(s)
Last year a demo was given for this quilt design at guild. The design works best with an irregular stripe fabric. I acquired both the pink stripe fabric and a similar turquoise fabric somewhere during the year. When a class was offered locally last month, I decided to take it. It was fun arranging the HST's. I am not very experienced at machine quilting, but I had no problem with this quilt, since I quilted in the ditch and along stripes for the most part.

Great quilt! What was pattern name?

Daylesewblessed 03-05-2014 07:51 PM

The technique/pattern was presented to us as "Yipes! Stripes!", but I have not seen it in print and have not found it on the internet. I do not know if it was published. It involves using striped prints where the stripes are irregular. You can choose any size for the HST's. I cut the original squares 6", which makes a slightly smaller block when sewn into a HST's. The trick is keeping everything organized, so that you can match the stripes for each block. Plus you need 3 and sometimes 4 blocks made identically. The HST's can be arranged in any fashion as desired.

I enjoy patterns and techniques where things are kind of random. That is the case with this -- until you have sewn the HST's, you don't really know how they will turn out.

The other students made each made their quilts from 1 fabric. I didn't have enough of the pink fabric, so I added the turquoise fabric. That worked out ok for me.

Your color choices are great! Lovely quilt! Pat yourself on the back and smile!

Homemother 03-06-2014 05:54 AM

Wow! Your blocks look like they are stacked (which I'm sure was the intent) so it has dimension! I love dimensional quilts. They keep your eye roaming around and not settling on any one point. Love it.
