Okay....some people are blessed with an acctual ROOM to dedicate to this addition called quilting. I was told I could use the basement....
So I've been trying to get things put together for awhile. It's nothing beautiful....it's not a decorating triumph....but when I look at it I sigh a happy sigh, knowing I can have all my things setup and can leave them setup. Anyway this is a hodge podge of items left over from when we purchased our new house. The previous owner passed away and they left most of the possesions in the house. It's a combination of old kitchen tables and and island from the kitchen before we remodeled it (which btw works GREAT as a cutting table). Old lamps, etc....but hey nice to be able to repurpose it instead of putting it in the landfill. :) I still want to paint the knotty pine (the entire basement, and kitchen were knotty pine)And someday I will drywall the basement and make it more of an acctual from....but right now I want to spend that money on a frame to put on the opposite wall :) At first I was kinda not excited about having the basment, but I am able to spread out, and it's nice and cool in the summer here. Anyway here it is....not much but I LOVE it! :) |
Pretty cool!
As long as it functions well for you, woohoo. I have to share my space with a full size bed:< So you've got much more free space than I do.
What's not to like. I have a small bedroom and count my self lucky. Enjoy
Love the knotty pine. Look real cozy, one could stay there sewing all day. Have fun.
Wow looks great. I would love to have all that space
Check before you throw away the knotty pine because some places it goes for a good price. One man's trash is another man's treasure.
Wish I had that much room, but we do what we can with what we have at the moment. You are blessed. |

Also I have 2 friends who like to come over and sew with me, so I will try and squeeze 1 more workspace in there. We sew, watch tv and talk. It's really nice, nothing like creating things together with others. |
Oh, I think it's awesome! Would LOVE to have that room! And how lucky to have room for friends to come over too. :)
I'll trade you - I have to use the garage for my LAQ (will have AC in summer and Elec. heat in winter) ANYTIME. The basement is perfect for a get-a-way, also. Everyone needs a hideout.
It looks like you have a good set up - just ready to sit down and sew Have fun. |
I think it is a wonderful room :D:D:D I love the knotty pine, you have so much room, Lucky You :D:D:D
I think the knotty pine is restful, and I, too, am in the basement, cool in the summer and out of the way of the general traffic.
Gosh just look at that room. And to think you don't have to put anything away when you finish for the day, just pick up where you left off. I would love to have a full basement for my sewing. I now use the dinning room table for sewing and go to our Church for cutting using the long tables there. Lucky you. I like the knotty pine, however I like wood panneling.
Looks like heaven to me  All that space ... room to move and expand
Love your room! Mine is so small I cannot capture it in one photo. I must say, the TV is far enough away so to not distract. Clever ...
Michael,
I love your space. I wish I could spread out like that to sew and quilt. You did a good job on re-purposing the items from the house. Nice! Have fun with your new room. |
Wow . . . I would do a happy dance for that knotty pine.j It is absolutely beautiful. The rest of the room is pretty nice too.
I can relate. I use to have a 30 x 15 room in a bas't, moved and now I'm in a 12x12 rm :hunf: :hunf: :hunf: you are very lucky
I also love that fact that you have repurposed many of your larger pieces. I use a bedroom for my quilt studio....two of my kids' computer tables for sewing surfaces and an old farmhouse metal table on wooden blocks for a cutting surface....nothing fancy but I love it and as you say...you leave your stuff out and ready to sew at a moment's notice...it's heaven.
Looks like you have a great space to work in. I only have a portion of the "Family room" which holds the computers, treadmill, couch and several other items. But, I like being where other are, I don't like to be isolated.
I love knotty pine.... so pretty. Much better than white, very nice space! enjoy.
Very nice I will trade you my corner under our tv and beside the dinning room table that sits in the living room. This is a crazy house. You have nice light in your basement. It will work and as you say you can spread out...have fun
awesome, I love the knotty pine!
we had paneling in our family room and painted it a cream color and sure is great! |
Wonderful space! I am jealous! My DH has gone out of his way to convert our DS's old bedroom into a nice cozy sewing room and it is wonderful, but I just got a Juki on a frame...it is now set up in the dining room until we clean out our DD's old basement bedroom. It is amazing how much space those frames take up!
I love the knotty pine. So nice you have a space to spread out and to spend creative time with your friends. |
Holy crap Batman, I read your spiel first before looking at the photo and I was expecting well, not much! Then I looked at the photo and I think you have a great room! I'm impressed with it, very spacious and roomy, I like it!!!!!!
I LOVE your room! It is so roomy and airy - and one can actually WALK from one side to the other!......LUCKY YOU!!!
What a fantastic space! You've got room to spread out forever! Don't worry about the decorating now--a quilting room is always kind of a work in progress. As you go along you'll be able to figure out how you want to set things up, and once you do, you'll probably have a few "ah-ha" moments and change it all around again! Once things have found where they belong, then you can worry about decorating. In the meantime, enjoy your fabulous quilting space--what freedom!
Nice room Michael! That kitchen island makes a great cutting table!
Do I see a Bernina and a Juki there? |

That looks great to me. Thanks for sharing.
Oh, I love it! I LOVE the knotty pine too, looks so warm and comfy!
Oh, I love your studio, and love the knotty pine. I have my sewing cabinet against the back of the living room couch, use the kitchen table to cut on, and so none of my messes are even hidden when I sew.
I also paint, and when I have my easel set up, it occupies the space between the table and the windows in the dining area. It is living space. No room for creative messes. To have your space, I wouldn't care if it had sheets nailed to wall studs.....just a space of my own would do. Yours is heavenly. |
As I read your post I felt your pain of not having a room of your own. So happy that you have your own space to work in now. I will be getting one soon. My oldest daughter is getting married on May 29th and I'm moving my bedroom furniture into her room since she took hers and making the master bedroom, which isn't much bigger than my daughter's bedroom but it will be my sewing room. I'm so excited about getting my own space so I know where you are coming from. It will be nice to be able to get up and leave, close the door and then come back to my sewing when I can and not have to put everything away when I have to cook dinner. Your sewing space looks great by the way. Wish I could have that much room.
Very nice room. You have everything right there that you need & want to create beautiful quilts. Thanks for sharing
I think it's great! Love your cutting area! I wish I had a room. I miss my old house...I could have had 1/2 of the basement in that house.
Wow!!! You sure have pleanty of room to move around in.
Love your room. The knotty pine makes the room warm and inviting!!! You should be able to create great things there.
Great space! Think I'll use one of your ideas for future remodeling at my place -- using a kitchen counter/cabinet -- must be a wonderful height for cutting. Also like the knotty pine; if it "grows" on you, put up quilts!!! Wish I could -- my sewing room is 10'x10', top floor of a Cape Cod so only half walls.
One last thought... how's the humidity in your basement? Mine is dry but, at times, it benefits from a dehumidifier. Over time, a kind of mildewy film can appear on metal parts. Enjoy you new space!! |
It totally out classes my basement!!!! I'd be jumping up and down if I had that much room and the basement atleast being finished. Once is starts getting really cold, I have to move my quilting from the sunroom back to the basement!! Really not a creative environment at all!!! YUCK!!!
TRADE YOU!!
My room is 15 x 12, have my Avante, Serger, & Machine, plus old dresser, computer, I'm cramped but it works. |
