Over a year ago I decided to make a Sylvia's Bridal Sampler quilt from the book by Jennifer Chiaverini.

I've regretted that decision regularly, since I am a one-at-a-time quilter. That's why it earned its name, as many times in the last year I've said I would love to work on (whatever new project attracted me) except that "I have to finish that Stupid Sylvia quilt".

But finally I can call it DONE and move on to something smaller, easier, and a lot more fun. So why am I even glancing at the Dear Jane book??!

OMG, this is an awesome quilt. Stupid it isn't; gorgeous it is. Thank you for sharing.

lynnsim 04-03-2011 04:23 AM

Your quilt is beautiful! It looks like you spent a lot of time creating it.

frauhahn 04-03-2011 04:23 AM

Wow! This was worth the aggravation, now, wasn't it?!!

Monstookie 04-03-2011 04:24 AM

I bow to your "sticktoitive" (is that a real word) laugh.

The quilt is beautiful, well done.

KarenR 04-03-2011 04:25 AM

LOVE IT!

fixfido 04-03-2011 04:26 AM

Phenomenal! Congratulations on finishing one ENORMOUS project!

mommamac 04-03-2011 04:30 AM

that's a masterpiece! You must have willpower up the kazoo - I can't imagine having the self discipline to work on only one project for that length of time. Give yourself a big pat on the back!

'Cause you're a masochist? ;-) ;-) ;-)

The quilt is fabulous, and clearly was a lot of work. I'm a huge fan of simple, solid, wide borders - it really makes teh viewer focus in on the blocks and frames them beautifully.

What's the finished size of the blocks?

dream56 04-03-2011 04:32 AM

OMG - I think I would have quit quilting by now if I would start something like that.
It is gorgeous. Wonderful job.

patty48 04-03-2011 04:34 AM

Wow, I would have never tackled that. Great job

sueisallaboutquilts 04-03-2011 04:46 AM

The blocks finish at 6 inches. My borders are really a dark batik, though they show as black. It is meant to have multiple borders, but I decided to skip that part, LOL.

tealfalcon 04-03-2011 04:50 AM

Sensational Sylvia, Stunning Sylvia, Spectacular Sylvia - they are all better names for your beautiful quilt. Pat yourself on the back, you did a great job!

sidmona 04-03-2011 05:29 AM

beautiful quilt - it does look like it would require a great deal of time to finish it.

Calzo 04-03-2011 05:32 AM

It is really pretty, worth all of the time you put into it.

debcavan 04-03-2011 05:33 AM

Oh is it gorgeous. But my heavens what a project. I understand calling it stupid sylvia. Every two to three years I do something challenging. But I only pieced for a little over a month and was complaining. Ok I was also getting aquainted with my new ripping too. After doing this you know you can do anything you set your mind to. Congrats

Because if your like me, you love working with small pieces and you love a challenge! The feeling of accomplishment when a piece like this is done is grand indeed.

BTW- my first introduction to "Dear Jane" was a quilt I saw at the International show in Chicago a few years ago and like you, she had a love/hate relationship with the quilt and named it "No Pain, No Jane".

Your Stupid Sylvia quilt is awesome!! Beautiful work, lovely fabric choices.

Keep going. I see Jane, Omigosh, and Farmers Wife in your future!!

DebraK 04-03-2011 07:16 AM

Should be stupendous Sylvia. So beautiful.

craftyone27 04-03-2011 07:18 AM

That is one beautiful sampler quilt!! I think you might need to consider a namechange when you have a little more distance from the project- it's fabulous!

Summer Spice 04-03-2011 07:22 AM

You are to be commended!! This is truly a work of art, so many designs included. Wonderful job and thanks for sharing.

loishe 04-03-2011 07:28 AM

Wow! Is all I can say! Beautiful, awesome!

clynns 04-03-2011 07:31 AM

To do something so tedious is truely a labor of love. Beautiful job.

SandyinZ4 04-03-2011 07:33 AM

Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us. I know how you feel. I did that on a Totally Tubular quilt and as I was endlessly working on it, it somehow got renamed 'The quilt from H - - -". I even included the nickname on the label when I was finished but amazingly it looked good when done. Yours is spectacular though and now you know you can do anything! :-)

thequilteddove 04-03-2011 07:34 AM

It's gorgeous!

Step away from the Dear Jane book. lol

Aimee G 04-03-2011 07:37 AM

Awesome! I completely understand why you're calling it Stupid Sylvia. Working on 6" blocks right now & I can't even say what I'm calling it in my head. You're quilt is gorgeous :)
