I think this was the 2nd or 3rd quilt I ever made - two years ago. I made it for my friend's 80th birthday (she's in the picture). She loves butterflies - especially those blue ones and while I was searching on line for fabric I found this kit on overstock.com. The fabric was perfect so I ordered it. Until I joined this forum, I'd never heard of OBW, Kaleidoscope, or Stack and Whack. So which one does this really fall into? I know I always said it looked like a Kaleidoscope but the pieces were cut when I got it and since looking at all these wonderful options on the QB I now want an answer. :)

:) I would just call it BEAUTIFUL! Sorry, I'm a newbie, working on my first quilt, but I'm sure you'll get an answer to your question.

LOL! Thank you, onthelake.

I believe it is Stack and Whack or Kaleidoscope. OBW stands for one block wonder, as in the block produced comes from all one shape. (equalateral triangle?)

It looks like a stack and whack, but I don't know what a OBW looks like

Those things .. in my opinion.. are all similar, the actual determination would be how they were cut out.. I have done stars like those and I did them as a kaleidoscope.
I cut out a template put markers on it and cut each "point" individually. The end result is the same, but I can get much more precise results with that style than the stack and whack. |

I have always thought that they were different paths to the same conclusion. |
