Thread Catcher Gifts I gave and of course kept...

My sister had a "Simple Quilts & Sewing" magazine this fall with the pattern for these thread catchers in it. They were super simple and fun to make. I never thought I needed a thread catcher or a pin cushion by my sewing machine but I have totally changed my mind. The blue and brown and the pink and brown ones are staying with me but gave the rest for Christmas.

Painiacs 12-26-2011 11:16 PM

Those are sooo cute!!! Are they hard? I have a kit but haven't done it!!

gzuslivz 12-26-2011 11:18 PM

Those are awesome! I have the pattern, too. Are they difficult to make?

heather1949 12-26-2011 11:33 PM

They are real stunners, great job.

sewbeadit 12-27-2011 01:57 AM

They are pretty and you did such a great job of making them, gorgeous work.

jansquiltn 12-27-2011 02:18 AM

Woo woo you were busy. I need a new one!?

lalaland 12-27-2011 02:53 AM

I have 2 of those and could use a third. I actually bought them at my LQS. I could have made them but sometimes you just have to pick your projects or you'll have a kagillion of them and never be able to do them all! So I decided I would take advantage of someone else's expertise and I'm glad I did. Lucky gals that will be getting these!

joyplace 12-27-2011 03:40 AM

Beautiful........................I love your colors............So kind of you to share your talent. I am sure everyone will enjoy their gift. I have one near my sewing maching . Use it every day.

Nanaof4 12-27-2011 05:26 AM

Great job. Where did you get the pattern? I would love one of them for my sewing room.

mommessy 12-27-2011 05:29 AM

I think I might have to make some of those! They are really neat!

littlesurfer 12-27-2011 05:31 AM

I have 2 thread catchers/pin cushions, from a kit from Connecting Threads, and use them everyday. You did a wonderful job making yours.

kay45 12-27-2011 05:33 AM

Those are so cute! You did a great job. I have made a couple but my bags don't stand out like these. What did you use in the top of the bag?

Blinkokr 12-27-2011 05:43 AM

Have a Blessed day and a Happy New Year

Very nice. Love the bright happy colors you used.

winia 12-27-2011 06:48 AM

They are nice. Where can I get the pattern?

KimS 12-27-2011 06:53 AM

I bought one from etsy.com and love it! Yours are very nice. :)

hirshal 12-27-2011 06:58 AM

Can I ask what you do with the thread? I am guessing it is thread you cut off when you are sewing.

A1penny 12-27-2011 07:01 AM

You did a beautiful job, they look really professional! What a great gift for a quilter or sewer!

marthe brault-hunt 12-27-2011 07:08 AM

I made one a few years ago. I place a plastic bag inside to avoid threads clinging to the fabric. It is part of my sewing equipment.

littlehud 12-27-2011 07:10 AM

Those are all so pretty. Funny how we don't think we need things til we have them. I know I love mine and there are a few less threads on the floor now. I bet everyone loved their gifts from you. Thanks for sharing.

MOBRIDGE MOM 12-27-2011 08:01 AM

This pattern was super easy and didn't take long to make.

cowgirlquilter 12-27-2011 08:04 AM

I thinkthat they are wonderful! If you are interested in selling one, please pm me.....I love them!

Grandma Peg 12-27-2011 09:03 AM

You really did a great job with them, like the extra embellishments. A SP from the board sent me one and I just love it and use it all the time.

rosequilter 12-27-2011 11:07 AM

Those are soooooo cute! I've never seen them before.

fmhall2 12-27-2011 11:16 AM

So nice and pretty. What do you use to make the bottom stand out so nice and circular?

Maria C 12-27-2011 11:19 AM

I love them too

Dolphyngyrl 12-27-2011 04:41 PM

I've made a couple abbey bags, they aren't hard, kind of fun to make

judy363905 12-27-2011 04:47 PM

These are so useful... I won one at a Quilt Overnight Class...Lucky me...and they hold a lot of threads and scraps... :-)

I'm going to have to make one of these -- or two or three.

Mamatron 12-27-2011 04:56 PM

Those are great, I really need to make myself one or two or?

The bottom is squared off by sewing across the point and 1/2" polyester boning is put under the band on the top of the bag.

Someone mentioned that they put a plastic cottage cheese carton inside theirs to make it easier to clean out and also put thread, small scissors, etc. into it and put the lid on it to take stuff to retreats or classes.

I would love to but it isn't my pattern to give out. It came from probably the fall issue of Simple Quilts & Sewing.
