Thrift store find - finally!

Well, I've had small finds, but this one felt like "the big one"! Was driving to an antique store to look around, no purchases in mind. On the way, I saw a thrift store that I'd not been in before. So I turned into the store parking and went in. Within minutes I found two tubs of fabric. Spent over an hour looking through, sorting into "buy" and "don't buy" piles. The sales person came over to see if I needed help, so I asked could i get a bulk price, which meant I would have carried all home with me. That offer was declined.

Bottom line is that I picked out a lot of fabric and bought it for $28. The thrift store is dedicated to funding a charity, so I insisted that I be allowed to pay $10 more. Beleive me, I did ok even with paying the extra $10.

Some of the fabric is poly/cotton, but most is 100% cotton. I sorted it for washing on my garage floor and took a picture or two.

Also rescued a cute little girls quilt for $2. Now I have to find a home for it...no toddler girls in my family, but sooner or later it will find a child to love.

I left behind three large pieces of pinwhale corduroy coordinates. Probably about 15 yards total. I really had to think about that because they are soft enough to make nice quilt backings. Am still thinking about them...

If I get the pictures to load, take a look.

My MIL made corduroy quilts for my sons in the '70 and backed them with some kind of poly. The corduroy was so nice and cozy. I loved those quilts! Go back and get the corduroy:)

What a great find, you have lots of sewing ahead of you. I would also say to go back and get that corduroy. You might be amazed what you could make up with it. It is so soft and warm.

I spy the Veggie Tale Panel in you pile of fabric find. I have a granddaughter who loves the Veggie Tales. You got a great deal and was a generous person to add a little extra for the charity. Wish I could make a find like yours. I'm going to keep looking for my "find".

Wow! Great find. I also give a little more to those who sell for charity. You get a bargain and they get to help people. Win-win!

All for $28 you did good. Such a variety you picked out. Some little girl is going to be happy when this quilt finds her.

Floralfab 11-16-2011 12:43 PM

I'm jealous!!!

annthreecats 11-16-2011 01:19 PM

Wow, you got some nice stuff there. I agree, go back and get the corduroy, you can use it for pet beds, if nothing else.

RUSewing 11-16-2011 01:31 PM

What great shopping! Poly-cotton is good esp. in quilts that will be laundered a lot.
