We made these in quilting last week, great gift idea for anybody, you can fill it with appropriate tools of trade! Only took 2 - 1/2 yrds contrasting fabric. This was the teachers sample.

Rumbols 08-01-2011 07:00 PM

I have plans to make some for my office co-workers for Christmas.

tellabella 08-01-2011 07:08 PM

What a cute idea! Is there a pattern we can find somewhere?

blueangel 08-01-2011 07:09 PM

Cute idea

SherriB 08-01-2011 07:20 PM

It is a McCall's or Simplicity pattern, just can't remember which one. I have it and hope to make some for Christmas gifts.

Found a link to the pattern number:
http://www.simplicity.com/p-4469-craft.aspx

Hancock Fabrics or Hobby Lobby usually run patterns on sale for a couple of dollars.

cindy4857 08-01-2011 07:20 PM

moonwork42029 08-01-2011 07:53 PM

Carron 08-01-2011 08:54 PM

like it lots.

np3 08-01-2011 08:55 PM

Very pretty!

Ramona Byrd 08-01-2011 09:18 PM

I think that I'd put at least one small plastic tube in a pocket for that seam ripper. I wouldn't take much time to slice my hand on it reaching for something else.
That sure is a pretty and very practical gift, and I'd like to make one for me. I also have far too many coffee mugs, some of which are man sized.

Ramona Byrd 08-01-2011 09:20 PM

Whoops, clicked on the button twice.

Ramona Byrd 08-01-2011 09:23 PM

What about a tiny lazy susan, with velcro glued to it and velcro sewed to the mug holder? Some crafty lady could make them. Just use a router to make a deep circle in it, then fill it with steel marbles and put a bottom on it with small lifters less high than the marbles. Paint first.

Thanks SherriB for providing the pattern site, as I didn't have it, our teacher just provided the pattern and directions. DonnaB

You can get seam rippers with covers. That's how I keep from injuring myself

I vowed never to make anything but quilts as my attempts at all else were met with failure. However, this is so cute and looks easy enough... I am going to attempt. thanks for the idea and those who provided links

Candy Apple Quilts 08-02-2011 02:54 AM

What a great idea! :D

PBaumgartel 08-02-2011 03:15 AM

Made these, filled them with chocolates, and used them as favors for a recent family celebration. A big hit! They can be used as a sewing caddy or a desk caddy filled with pencils, pens, etc.

I know I saw a free pattern for this online but now I can't locate it. If I figure out where it was, I will share the link ;)

That would be a great way to organize my cupfull of stuff! I have one at my sewing machine and another at my cutting table. It gets kind of crowded. Great gift idea!

perfect gifts!

scrappylouisa 08-02-2011 04:59 AM

Very cute! I bought the pattern last time Joann's had a 99 cent sale on Simplicity patterns. I plan on making them for Christmas gifts for my family this year. I thought I would fill them with bags of homemade candies. Then afterward they could use them for pens, pencils, ects.
