Victorian/Heirloom Stockings
2 Attachment(s)
I am thrilled to share these - before purchasing my long arm I was dabbling in this style of heirloom quilting on my domestic machine and was having a great time. It has taken me almost a year to get to this point on my long arm...where I can do detail work! I have an older machine so it's a little more finicky to move...and I also have no stitch regulation so the learning curve was a bit longer...but I'm thrilled to be able to create this kind of quilting...finally!!
These are Victorian/heirloom inspired stockings. I'm a huge fan of Cindy Needham and her linen quilts and I am making three stockings for each of my daughters in that style. I want to add beads and vintage lace to these when done, but I'm still playing and making it up as I go! Fun!! :) The first photo is a close up of the front of the first stocking, and the second is the reverse side. I think I'm going to do these trapunto effect feathered backings for all three, but the front will have different patterns. |
Those are beautiful, well done. Your work is definitely worth it.
|
absolutely gorgeous..what kind of thread did you use in top and bobbin?
|
Ugh!! These will be absolutely stunning when you're finished. And precious heirloom to be had!

|
These are just stunning!!! If you could share some info I'd be grateful... Did you actually add additional batting to the tapunto areas, or is that just the effect of dense quilting around the feathers? What batting did you use???
|
Wow! Will be beautiful stockings! Good for you for hanging in there and getting so you could do them!! Love them!
|
These are going to be heirlooms! Quilting is spectacular!!

You COULD do this by quilting the feathers first with a water soluble thread and then trimming away the batt...but that's a lot of work and honestly if I'm going to go to all the trouble I'd rather do it at the machine than quilting, trimming, quilting again. Bleh. Like I said I'm lazy. LOL :) The batting is Quilter's Dream Poly Request...their least expensive lowest loft batting. But I used two layers. |
Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.
