gcathie made this one months ago. It was so beautiful--it called me to make it. And now, months and months later--it's done. :D I need to get horses up before I meet a friend for dinner... but can you see the difference in greens in the lattice? I had to use two different colors--interesting fabric situation...I'll explain later.
I LOVE the fabrics in here!! |
If there are two different greens, it doesn't look at all odd. The quilt is beautiful, you must be pleased with your efforts.
|
its just charming and i can't see different colors in the green.
|
Love the design, the colors and the fabric...beautiful job...it's going on the have to make it list. I really do have list!
|
Awesome pattern and the prints are great! Nice job!

|
OMG! That is gorgeous! I really love the colors you chose and the pattern is wonderful, too. Wow.
|
This is one of the prettiest patterns I have ever seen, and your colors and fabrics are perfect for it. When I showed it to my wife, she asked, "When are we going to make this?" We have 13 projects going on right now (literally), but apparently this is going high on the list after the Christmas and wedding gifts are completed.
Do you know where the pattern came from? I think we can put it together without a pattern, but it just makes me feel better to have something to go by. I'm going to go search for it right now. Darren |

Darren--after gcathie told me the pattern's name--one she got for free--I searched and searched for it with no luck. I even emailed the folks who sold the fabric and they said it was no longer available. Rats! :?
Here's the scoop about that green: I used mostly stash for this one, but needed green and it had to match perfectly... so while searching in my favorite Mennonite shop, I found it! But, when I pulled the bolt out it was this: see photo below. :D It was too perfect to not use, so I bought 2-3 yards (don't remember-it was long ago) and cut it into colors. I anticipated not having enough of the dark green, so decided to use the medium green to fill in. So--the stars in the corners have medium green through the middle both ways--but they're so close together, I don't think anyone would ever notice. Now I have to figure out what to use for the binding. Then on to finish the "scrappy watercolor floral log cabin." |
Very striking quilt. I was amazed how different the close-up looked from the whole quilt. Your fabric choices were outstanding.
|
OOOoooohhhhhh!!! Karla, now I've caught the Park Bug! That is so beautiful that I want to make one too! And I love your fabrics too. It's as if you're walking outside just as Autumn has started to turn some leaves, when the air is as crisp as an apple!
What size are your blocks? Now I'm going to have to dig out my drafting paper! LOL Beautiful job! As usual! |
There are two blocks--A and B. The difference is in the HST on the sides. I can give the cutting directions if anyone is interested... I found this tricky to put together. The rows aren't just A B A B--they go AABBAA or AAABBB, etc--and turned all directions! I had to really pay attention! The cornerstones would never have worked on my older machine--the 1/4" seams was a do or die situation in this one. (Well--it is in every quilt, eh?)
Block size--let me go check....okay--9" finished. Here's the one that inspired me! http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/list/8192.page |
Karla -
I would like to have those cutting instructions if you don't mind. Looking at it closer we did notice that the blocks are not all the same. I'm still pretty sure that I could make my own instructions, but I'd hate to mess up such a nice quilt. Thanks, Darren |

My, Karla, that sure is pertty in green...........I have a better photo of mine so you can see it better
|
That is absolutely beautiful. Love the colors. Great job.
|
Oh gcathie--please post it here!! I drooled over the picture you posted and now you say you have a better one?
Cutting. For blocks, the varying fabrics for HST: cut two 3 and 7/8" (that's a weird way to do it, but makes it clear for you) x WOF from each fabric for each. Sub-cut each color into eighteen 3 and 7/8" squares, then thirty-six HST For the common HST fabric, cut seven 3 and 7/8" x WOF. Sub-cut into seventy-two 3 and 7/8" squares, then 144 HST. For the common square piece i the corner: cut four 3.5" x WOF. Sub-cut into thirty-six 3.5" squares. For the large HST: cut three 6 and 7/8" x WOF from each. Sub-cut each color into eighteen 6 and 7/8" squares and then thirty-six HST Make 18 of each block. If the four small HST are labled a, b, c, d--on A they go in that order from left to right around the large HST. For the B block it goes d, c, b, a. (does that make sense) Sash and cornerstones: cut twenty-one 1.5" x WOF. Sub-cut into eighty-four 1.5" x 9.5". Cornerstone: cut two 1.5" x WOF. Sub-cut into 1.5" squares. (I didn't do it that way--I sewed the 1.5" strip to the 9.5" strip and then cut them into 1.5" strips. You'll need several 1.5" squares for the ends though. The sashes are sewed between blocks in rows, then in rows between rows. (got that? ) The block lay out is: A B B A A B B A B A B A B B B A A A A A A B B B A B A B A B B A A B B A Border is 6". How's that? |
I do like the green much better.....so calming.....you did a grand job Karla!.....
|
Karla...once again, you have made an awesome quilt!
I love the colors! |

|
gcathie--I LOVE yours!! Well--I guess that's obvious now. :D See how you inspired me--and now everyone else???!!! You posted that a year ago--took me long enough, eh?
I'm going kayaking in the morning.. then will tackle the last few blocks for the log cabin... then lay it out one-more-time. Diana--picking the fabrics--that's my favorite part! This one was tricky because there are so many to work together. Thanks, Terri. :D Oops--I see here it's actually called: A Walk in the Park. :D |

I weeded the gardens for 3 hours today--then worked Rosie--then ran 2 miles--then finished this quilt top--then went to dinner with a friend. I had much horse chores to do when I got back--NOW I'm ready for bed. Dang--I do not know where all this energy is coming from--well, maybe it's because I don't have to go to work! I can hardly keep up with myself! |

Karla--what a beautiful quilt---I love your greens. That green fabric you bought at the Amish store is really unusual. I have never seen any like it before---it served you well for your quilt.
Cathie--thanks for posting yours again too---I had almost forgotten it. It was one of the first quilts I saw when I joined the board. |
Thanks Marcia.....I didn't have this neat way oh hanging things then ...just draped everything over a chair....guess I could have taken a closer photo....
I do love the green fabric..looks so different ...I just might have to try it in those colors....:-) |
Really nice - I can't see the difference in the greens at all! I looked hard too, but seriously can't see it!

gcathie, I was admiring and admiring your quilt, and after I had looked at it for the tenth or so time, I started looking at the background. I am totally jealous of your sewing room! Unless that was taken in a shop! But I'm guessing that's really your stash! Color me the same shade as barnbums quilt! LOL PS I would love a close up of your avatar quilt! |
gee thanks.....it is my sewing room....I swear my material is breeding.....:-)
as for my Avitar...just click on it and go to the right hand side and click on the number of posts......thin is is 44 or something like that....and read down think it was a couple down from the top......Twisted Bargello.....hope this helps....if not pm me and I'll see what esle we can do....:-) |
Very nice, indeed. Love the colors and minimal fall designs with the larger print. :D
|
It's gorgeous, Karla, as is its inspiration! I just love to see the same pattern done up in different ways!
