I hope this isn't TOO busy...because bold, busy and bright it is! :shock:
Our second grandchild is due to arrive early October. My DS said they would like bright colors but not the typical boy blue colors. So many of you encouraged me to try putting the Warm Wishes and Pinwheels together when I asked if they would look good together. Well, this is what I came up with. What do you think? They may have to put sunglasses on the little sweetheart when he arrives! lol! Oh, one more question...what do you think about something soft for the backing...like minky? I've never worked with it before. Would you recommend it? And if I use it, do you still use batting? DS and family live on the Texas coast where the heaviest garment they use in the winter is a thick sweater! Thanks so much! That is so cute. Love it

Very cute great job!
As far as using minkee, that would be great. I see mixed reviews on how easy/difficult it is to work with. But I think even in Texas you can use minkee! |
I use Minky on all my baby quilts now and love the feeling and how they quilt. Your quilt is perfect for a grandchild!
Love the quilt. I just made a warm wishes with minkee back and no batting. It makes a nice, lightweight quilt. I'm going to have to take lessons from dmyers because I had a terrible time trying to machine quilt SID. I ended up tying it.
Just right for a child! Gorgeous!
I've never worked with minkee but I think it would be warm enough for Texas without batting.
I like it. Cute!
love it great job

~~~clapping because it is soooo cute~~~
Not to busy at all! Cute!
Very cute... I love it!
A real fun quilt!! The baby will love all the bright colours!!
It's perfect for a baby, bright colors, animals to look at. Minkee makes wonderful backing for baby quilts, it is soft and snuggly. I have used it several times without batting.
I LOVE it! I'm waiting for a similar pattern of jungle animals and all to arrive. I have never used any of the minky fabric, so I can't comment.
BUt I do think using it without batting makes sense, as he will probably never have to be covered by a lot of blankets. I bet it becomes his special "binky" |
That top is adorable. Congratulations on the impending arrival.
Very cute.
Karen, that's a wonderful quilt!!! Your little one will have so much fun looking at it! :D
I love it! Great idea with the pinwheels!
love it.
That is a great quilt. I have used minkee as a backing on two baby quilts and it does make them very cuddly. I used batting but they were for Ontario and Alberta babies, much colder than the coast of Texas.
I used a light batting in the one I made and quilted it on my long arm and it turned out fine. Just be careful about stretching it. I put the "stretch" on the rollers and was able to control it easily, but would probably work either way.
The quilt is really cute! I love "bright"! :D |
I like it! Your colors are bright, sunny and cheerful.
It really looks GREAT! You did a nice job with colors. It works well!
Really cute. The orange binding will be perfect. I say, the brighter, the better!
I love bright quilts for babies and that one is just adorable. I've used Minky on the back of many quilts and just love it. I do use a spray basting so it stays in place! And I do always use a batting, but we're in the MidWest where you want something a little heavier than where this one will be. I've heard of others who don't use a batting with it, but I never have. Good luck, it's a great quilt.
Bright & beautiful!
Very cute and bright.
Great quilt! I love the mixture of Warm Wishes and Pinwheels, may have to try that. What size are your blocks and finished size of quilt?
The small inner border is 1/2 inch wide and the outer border is 2 inches. So the overall size is 33 x 41...which of course can be changed up depending on how much border treatment you give your quilt. I didn't have enough material to give it any more, but I like the way it turned out anyway. |
I think it is really cute.
Fabulous!!! Not to bright at all - just lovely and cheerful!
