Given the beauty of the first three fabrics, what was the point of the fourth?

Anyone have any ideas, at all?

Yes, this is truly gray. With silver metallic.

LovingIzabella 02-16-2010 11:25 AM

Ummm...what was the fourth?

I don't see a fourth

Oh there it is. I kinda like it. It is like watching "it's a Wonderful Life "

And... how about this one? At least the coloring is warmer, and not so stark. Gold metallic here.

They're from the 2010 holiday lineup.

LovingIzabella 02-16-2010 11:26 AM

Never mind you were posting as I was lol
I actually kind of like it-perhaps there is something wrong with me lol

The fifth one is the one that does not do it for me :-)

Jamie 02-16-2010 11:27 AM

I dunno, But i like it, it gives great contrast..and there is silverish coloring in the other ones too..Personaly I think they all go very nice together.

Well... I always think that the manufacturers must be doing some sort of market research, to figure out what the customers want. But... sometimes I see a fabric and wonder what they were thinking.

They've run the first cardinal print for probably the better part of a decade. Maybe longer. It's hard to improve on a design that's already pretty near perfect!

LovingIzabella 02-16-2010 11:32 AM

Yes the first is an all time favorite I think

PS Will you be carrying the stark one?

Hoffman is also doing the cardinals in a half-size this year too. I think they're kinda cute. I could tell the sales rep was not keen on it, though. She said that she hadn't sold any of the larger gray version yet. Though I don't think she's had the samples for very long, so it's probably too early to tell.

Ducky 02-16-2010 11:35 AM

I actually like the gray and metallic silver fabric. One could get very creative with it.

Oh, no... I just don't think I could bring myself to order that one.

I miss the red in the birds.

Miss...

...miss...

.......miss...

I'm just thrilled that they're bringing back the first one again!

What would you combine it with, Ducky? I didn't see anything else in Hoffman's lineup that was gray. At least, not that dark a gray. They didn't even show any silver-gray ones in the 2010 holiday lines. They've done pewter-black tones before, in their Asian groups, but those always had gold metallic, not silver.

I just checked their site, looking for the "28S" colorway, to see if they had ANYTHING else to go with this... and the closest is this intriguing swirl one (can you see the birds in it?) but it is white and silver. The cardinal one has no really light tones in it to tie in directly with the white.

Chasing Hawk 02-16-2010 11:53 AM

I like the grayish one, and the "ducky" one if that's its name.

Ducky 02-16-2010 11:56 AM

I don't see why a white couldn't be incorporated... Actually, what I saw in my mind's eye was a gradation from very light grays down to blacks. But I would think a deep burgundy or deep olive green in sashing or border would make a rich look.

LOL!!! Hey, I've never been accused of having great taste and talent in putting fabrics together. Though, I truly love the colored samples you showed us, too. I love anything with cardinals.

Favorite Fabrics 02-16-2010 12:03 PM

Well, I almost *always* can be called way too literal in my interpretations of the fabrics. Which is why I'm stuck on having red cardinals, and of course all daffodil fabrics (for me) have to be yellow, white, with maybe a little peach but not pink ('cause those "pink daffodils" aren't truly pink)...

Maybe the more artsy folks need to do a serious intervention with me! :-)

MNQuilter 02-16-2010 12:05 PM

I think that some reds would make the grey/silver fabric pop!

thismomquilts 02-16-2010 12:55 PM

I love the fourth one!!

nursie76 02-16-2010 01:03 PM

I think that the fourth one would work well if combined with the colored versions of the collection. I am not creative, but can see how it would work.

billswife99 02-16-2010 01:33 PM

Oh dear! I think I sent some of that gold one to my secret santa! Now you are telling me it's ugly? Sorry Ligia!

Honey 02-16-2010 02:29 PM

Call me wierd, but I love them all. And I love the swirl with the black and white!

rismstress 02-16-2010 05:02 PM

I love the fourth one-- but then I love toile fabric. I'd buy this one over the others.

I like it... I can imagine using just about any color to mix with this print. I think blues would look very pretty, even greens or reds. Oh and purples!

A very soft silvery blue :D It would really be elegant :!:

patty48 02-16-2010 06:25 PM

I have some of the first three (cardinal nut), I know that I would pass on the "non" red cardinals.....

Kyiav10 02-16-2010 06:42 PM

I personally really really like it!! It is all a personal preference.

I like it too. I think it reminds me of dusk in winter. Imagine a snowy day, and the sun is almost set. There's enough light left to see everything around you, but it's reflected off the snow and makes everything look grey or blue. That's the feeling I get when I see the image on this fabric. I would put it with blue, grey, or pale purple to reinforce the snow feeling. I might even look for a white on white or silver on white snowflake print as well.

That is a fantastic idea! You can come and help me pick out fabric any time.

MissTreated 02-16-2010 09:28 PM

I like them all, too. I actually have some of the third one from several years ago. I made a bunch of bowls with it. Turned out gorgeous.

earthwalker 02-16-2010 09:35 PM

I like them...they are quite subtle and I think could be incorporated into quite contemporary designs. The more "natural" ones are pretty too, but sometimes it is nice to have a subtle print.

wvdek 02-16-2010 10:55 PM

Sorry, but I kind of like them.

Katrine 02-16-2010 11:24 PM

When are the fabrics released?
I like that grey/silver one - I have several white, and different blue, metallics, which would go well with it.

Oklahoma Suzie 02-17-2010 09:46 AM

I like the first one.

joeyoz 02-17-2010 10:08 AM

The fourth would be beautiful for a B&W quilt.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking the time to post these pictures. I love getting a preview of coming attractions. My little brain is just spinning with posibilities!

Dodie 02-18-2010 06:12 AM

I love the cardinal fabrics but only the colored ones I also like the smaller cardinals would make a great Christmas table runner

I think this would be lovely in a black and white arrangement with a small splash of red. I would buy it

cyniree 02-18-2010 10:36 AM

I like the fourth one, very old fashioned.
