As I am working on my Jewel Box quilt for me (finally!) I started to wonder how many people do all the cutting, then all the pressing, (I really am a qilter - I called it pressing instead of ironing!) then sew the same pieces at one time vs. an entire block at a time.

I didn't do all my cutting - but I did a lot. Now I am doing all the chain piecing.

What is your process?

I love doing it your way. It seems to just fall into place. Sure the prep time takes a little longer but when your done your done.. =)

I change methods depending on mood....i can get really moody!

I generally cut it all, start chain piecing and then can't stand it...I have to put some blocks together to see how well they get along. Seldom change anything, just like to look at them.

I change my method depending on the quilt I'm making I guess. With "Omigosh" I do some of the blocks at a time, then start over again. There was no way I wanted to stand there and cut that many strips, then sew that many strips, etc. etc - it was far easier to break it up into groups of 30 blocks or so.

I work in a production mode. Each is a weekend 1) all washing, starching, and ironing; 2)all cutting; 3) chain piecing 4) chain piecing; 5) put blocks together. Two years later, quilt the quilt. LOL, I work full time and at least two weekend a month. I have made quite a few quilts this way.

Mostly I work in assembly line style. I cut and bag my quilts into "kits", then when I have time I chain piece. Sometimes I'm dying to see how a block will come out, so I will do a whole block at a time. Depends on my mood and the amount of time/space/lack of distractions I have.
