I use to have a water bed. When hubby & I bought our new bedroom set, the bed got stored in our UNFINISHED breeze way for like 5 yrs. Hubby is actually suppose to be going to finish this 'breeze way' over the winter and wantes me to start clear'n all the crap out of it... Look what I made out of the base of my old water bed! I LOVE IT! A fantastic ironing station WITH storage! I knew all that 50% off the clearance price home deco fabric I bought 2yrs ago was a good idea! I used a coordinating fabric to make a curtain for the stairwell closet (now all I need is shelves in there... work'n on it). It's so kewl to be converting the hallway in to an extension of it my sewing space! *giggles* I'm soooooooo excited about this! Now I need to figure out what to do w/the wall space... peg boards... shelf? What ever I do, I know it will be great!

One of these days my entire home will be nothing but sewing space lolololol

Looks fantastic!

Grandma Bonnie 10-20-2012 04:16 PM

That is great! Is it two base pieces of the water bed frame stacked? Wonderful idea and it looks beautiful!

tealfalcon 10-20-2012 04:22 PM

<-------- this person is very jealous lol....looks fantastic

barbo117 10-20-2012 04:22 PM

What a wonderful idea. It looks great! Makes me wish I had a waterbed to make one for myself!!!! Awesome way to re-purpose! You are quite clever!

Or the base was cut in half and stacked?

That is an ingenious and totally useful repurposing of the waterbed base.
I can't believe all that storage space you now have.

I can certainly relate to this.
I think I'm pretty much at over 60% converted to sewing space and necessary storage required space.

Very smart! Looks great, good job!, i recently moved my bedroom into our smallest room so the master bedroom could house my longarm!
You have to set priorities!

SittingPretty 10-20-2012 04:52 PM

Love it! All that storage is so great. I have my ironing board (homemade, 28" X 52") set on top of a 2' X 4" folding table with a plastic shelving unit set up in 2 halves under it. I do have some boxes on the shelves, but your set-up is way better!

Nice ironing space. Looks great.

Tartan 10-20-2012 05:16 PM

Well aren't you clever! Now everyone will want one and it will be mighty hard to find an old wooden waterbed base.:D

Teddybear Lady 10-20-2012 05:18 PM

To all those non quilters...beware...we are taking over your space!!! LOL

Diane007 10-20-2012 05:20 PM

quiltingnonie 10-20-2012 05:23 PM

:thumbup::thumbup: I LOVE re-purposing! Good for you, and enjoy it to the max.

hudgoddess 10-20-2012 05:24 PM

What a great idea! I bet I could find a waterbed frame at an auction for almost nothing!

Jan T 10-20-2012 05:26 PM

You aare so very clever. The paint job and new handles transform this into a very lovely and useful piece of furniture.

debcavan 10-20-2012 05:27 PM

It looks great. What a brilliant idea.

I did the same thing using a baby change table. I was at Wal-Mart about a year ago and in the clearance there was a beautiful change table. A staff member saw me looking at it and he said I could have it for $45.00. I check with my hubby for the measurements of where I want to put. When I told the guy I would take it, he said I could have it for $35.00. It was $225.00. I am so glad I got as the table is the right height for me and it is so sturdy. I made a ironing pad to go on top using a piece of plywood, batting and cotton. It looks fantastic.

quilter1430 10-20-2012 05:40 PM

That is just too pretty! The white looks so fresh and so much storage! How lucky for you!!!

sewnsewer2 10-20-2012 05:41 PM

OMG I love this idea!!!!! Great thinking!

Kitsie 10-20-2012 05:53 PM

Clever, clever girl! Love to see stuff being re-invented! What a good job!

GrannieAnnie 10-20-2012 05:53 PM

thanks for the idea. Looks real good!

Years ago, when my younger DD was small I bought a twin bed that has storage under it. It would never be that tall since I have only one set of drawers, but I might us it and add shelving. Hubby wants it gone.

Central Ohio Quilter 10-20-2012 06:15 PM

Wow! What a great idea! We threw our old waterbed away several years ago. No one wanted it! Wish I had it back now!

The base was two pieces stacked.

fleurdelisquilts.com 10-20-2012 06:23 PM

I'll admit it....I'm jealous! Just jealous!

laurafet 10-20-2012 08:29 PM

Love this idea! I still have a waterbed frame very similar, and never thought to use it stacked as a dresser! Ours is holding up the box spring and mattress for # 3 son. I could be using it in my sewing room. Hmmm... He may come home to his bed on the floor one day soon! Great job!!

audsgirl 10-20-2012 08:36 PM

What a fantastic idea! It looks nice and big, too.

Quiltaddict 10-20-2012 10:13 PM

That is a great ironing station and so much storage space. I am going to have to start looking at garage sales for old waterbeds. Unless they see what you did with yours they should be pretty cheap.

quiltingcandy 10-20-2012 10:18 PM

Wow - you did a fantastic job and so smart to make it happen!

May in Jersey 10-20-2012 10:24 PM

tesspug 10-20-2012 11:16 PM

Way to recycle.

QM 10-20-2012 11:59 PM

That looks a lot like the base from my sons's twin captain's beds. I used them the same way. Great minds......

Babs194068 10-21-2012 01:13 AM

Wish I had seen this before I through my away. What a great idea
