Wilderness Quilt

4 Attachment(s)
I started this quilt for my son's wedding present when he announced his engagement. They just had their 2nd anniversary. It's hand quilted with embroidery floss and is incredibly heavy and HOT. They live in the Adirondacks, so that's okay. I still love the quilt, but am SOOO happy to no longer have this WIP on my plate!

Wonderful design! Ilove this. It's almost a grown-up's I Spy. Took me several minutes to find all the critters. I've never been enthused about wilderness quilts 'til now, but this is really inspiring. Great work.

I agree. I have been 3 years trying to finish hand quilting a nine patch. Wonder if I'll ever get it done. Obviously it is not something I enjoy doing very much!! Yours is beautiful.

PolkaBabe 06-08-2012 09:38 AM

I can see the warmth in this, as well as the love that has gone into it. Thank you for shareing.

Very pretty. It will be well loved.

What a great quilt! I looked at the picture before reading your post and thought "how Adirondack" that quilt looks! Lo and behold, you write they live in the Adirondacks! They will love it and it is perfect for any home up there. People who live up there really get into the whole Adirondack theme. I am working a flannel that has some of that fish fabric in it! And I absolutely ADORE your border fabric. You did a great job.

BTW, I just have to comment on your tag line. Let me know when you find that job, it is my dream job too! Check out my profile some time. LOL

Wow. I love it. I love the way you used the half squares to create a look of trees.

ShabbyTabby 06-08-2012 12:56 PM

Absolute stunning!! What a labor of love that quilt is. I'm sure your son and DIL will be thrilled to receive it. I know I surely would. The fabrics go so well together and the hand quilting is beautiful.

GMTA! I love this quilt! The lodge look is really popular in this neck of the woods (pardon the pun) & this one is a beauty! The border fabric is PERFECT! I'll bet your DS & DIL love, love, love this fabulous wedding present!

EvelynJ 06-08-2012 05:48 PM

Wow, that is wonderful. I know you just wanted to wait to make sure they still liked each other after the honeymoon phase was over before completing the quilt! I am sure they will enjoy the quilt. I see a lot of snuggling under this one....did you want to be a grandma?

lollygagging 06-08-2012 08:31 PM

Hi Fay,
Love your wilderness quilt. I know your son and d-i-l will get a lot of use out of this. You did a great job on it!

Hugs, Drue

That is a very cute 'wilderness' quilt. I like your placement of the appliqued fish. It's sure to fit right in, in the Adirondack Mountain region! Good job! A co-worker of mine only does hand work too. I don't have the patience for that, but you make it look worth while!
