While I was at my sons basketball practice yesterday I worked on cutting this silhoutte out. This is another one Designed By: Mary Stenros @ Willow Bend Creations and is called "The Roundup".
www.willowbendcreation.com

I decided to try a batik but at this point am a little skeptical if I like it or if I would prefer the black... Anyways, here is it so far...I still have a touch more of the Upper Corral on the left to cut out... and I must say my neck arthritis has started protesting.
This one I will say is a more of challenge with all the little windmill pieces and fence pieces. Definetly a Slow and easy going in cutting...

Pattern is now drawn onto 24" Steam A Seam 2 Lite"

Wow! That is fantastic! And I love the batik! I like the spring action scissors too. I have arthritis in my hands and wrists and can only use those, otherwise my fingers lock up. Can't wait to see the finished product.

What patients you have. That is going to be beautiful can't wait to see it.

MDMPanther 01-30-2011 05:07 AM

frugalfabrics 01-30-2011 05:55 AM

Will definitely keep an eye on this progression. It's amazing.

MISHNJIM 01-30-2011 06:00 AM

Your right...This is a lot of work...Turning out Beautifully though...Maybe you'll like the batik once you put it on top of the other fabric. I love it!!!

Vicki W 01-30-2011 06:47 AM

Lovely work, I think it is really going to depend on what fabric you place it on how well it "pops". What are you planning?

dsb38327 01-30-2011 07:01 AM

That is amazing. Your photos are a treasure, thank you for sharing them with us. I could never imagine how something like this is done. Such patience you have.

Lucymae 01-30-2011 07:04 AM

Mariposa 01-30-2011 07:06 AM

Wow! Thanks for sharing your progress on this! It will be fabulous when it is finished! :)

moonwork42029 01-30-2011 08:03 AM

Wow, you really have been a busy girl. I'd be half blind and half so stiff I wish I was blind so I didn't have to finish it at this point. Your other works have left me drooling wishing I had the patience and skill to do that. Maybe will try a "LARGE" cutout with very little detail this summer. You are an inspiration!

kittenquilts 01-30-2011 08:41 AM

Wow! I would love to see the finished project. I hope you update your pictures as the project moves along. Thanks for sharing.

dglvr 01-30-2011 08:52 AM

Holy cow thats is alot of work. Its beautifal. I love her patterns. I did the moose one but there wasn't as much cutting in that one as there is in yours. You did a great job on yours. I have the bear one too that I'm going to do next.
Seeing yours makes me want to get started on the next one.
I actually had alot of fun in her site one day and bought 4 or 5 of them. Addicting. Thanks for sharing all the along the way pictures. Beautifal.

stacey65 01-30-2011 08:53 AM

WOW! Nice job cant wait to see it finished.

Sapphire_Rae 01-30-2011 09:01 AM

Looks kinda like what you showed here, great job !!

maryb119 01-30-2011 10:04 AM

Thank you, and I agree.
As this is my "work in progress" there isn't any planning, flying by the seat of my pants so to speak... will audition a couple of fabrics shortly.

Jan T 01-30-2011 08:22 PM

Wowie! How big is this and what color is the background? Pretty please share it when it is finished.

grammyp 01-30-2011 08:32 PM

Love your quilts. Have you seen the 2 for 1 Hawaiian Applique? They keep the cut out pieces and use those to make another quilt. Of course they are not as intricate as yours, but it might work.

I really love the cutout done in the batik fabric. I vote for one of the lighter colored backgrounds!

KandiKane 01-31-2011 04:07 AM

Maybe if you could find the darker in just a little lighter color. The light one needs more variation, too white. Question, when you get it ironed onto the backing, do you zigzag around all those edges? I did a Halloween one once, used monofilament thread. I love them but my hands can't take all that cutting.

Babs194068 01-31-2011 05:03 AM

That looks amazing

Yooper32 01-31-2011 05:18 AM

This will be spectacular. Love the batik you chose, so much movement with this fabric.

1barron 01-31-2011 05:47 AM

WOW, You must have a lot of patience. My hat is off to you.

raedar63 01-31-2011 05:58 AM

LOVE THIS!

sandpat 01-31-2011 06:39 AM

I love these patterns...but this one is a LOT of cutting! I can't wait to see what you mount it on, it is very different from doing it in the black.

petersdk 01-31-2011 06:57 AM

Have you ever tried using a xacto knife on the really small areas?
Thank you so much for sharing. I just love what you do!

Thank you.
No I sure haven't tried an exacto knife. I think for me it would be harder to have the control over the little areas with an exacto knife. For the little area's I seem to have good luck with the small, pointed, sharp embroidery scissors and just going really slow.
Will have to try itand see how it goes, thanx for the suggestion.

DJ 01-31-2011 07:10 AM

How wonderful is this!? I haven't seen this before. Something to put on my bucket list :)
