Hi all, since so many of you were so kind as to take an interest and to share fabric for my Panda Quilt, I thought I'd do a WIP so you can see how it comes together.
Today I'm posting photos of some of the fabrics you all have shared with me, and some of the "go withs" I've come up with. I also have a pattern that I'm going to use as a taking off point for this quilt. It's an Amish-type large block pattern. I thought it better than cutting all the cute Pandas up into little pieces. I will be using more sashing and such than the pattern has tho. Thanks to the member who posted this photo, it was my first idea doing some adapting, my paper didn't have square spaces on the paper so my center is diamond instead of square so much to work with!! some color to break things up! some foliage, color, stuff to add interest and contrast |
Love seeing the steps of progress as a quilt comes together.

Neat fabrics! Have fun!
|

It's gonna be so great to watch this quilt come together; thanks for sharing with us! :D
|
I'm hoping for one more colored piece that is different from the 3 I have, to become the 4 triangles around the on point center square.
I still have more fabric coming in the mail. :D |
oh how fun!! if you can't work the pink/purple & yellow/orange panda's in.. they would be a nice surprise to use on the back :)
|
This is going to be outstanding!
|
Looks like it is going to be a fun quilt

Hi all. Today I did a little playing with some of the fabric.. I'm still waiting for a few more pieces to come in the mail.
I need one more color for the center square unit; you can see it with 3 colors below. I'm thinking maybe a strip of white between the center square and the colored triangles. I love the churndash squares for the four outer corners!! working on the center square love these churndash squares |
this is going to be adorable. i was going to make a panda quilt for my granddaughter but have had problems finding fabic. have decided to do penguins instead. she love both.
|

This is going to be fun to watch. Great idea, Linda!

This is so cute! Great job, and keep us posted.

wildyard, thanks for sharing. The panda fabric you’ve gotten so far is cute and the churdash squares are so sweet! Looking forward to watching this quilts progress :)

Today I finished the two outside panels of the quilt. I'm tempted to paint the leaves on the B&W inside of the long panels just to break up so much B&W, lol, what do you all think?
I tried putting a windmill block in the middle but it just didn't work. If I don't get another color for the center, what do you think of using 2 of the turquoise? I really don't want to do that, but without a 4th color.. well, I can always go a whole different direction too.. lol. Time to open the mind and let other ideas in. This is blocking my progress. LOL side panels with pending center section whole side panel other whole side panel |
Beautiful! I do really love the glow of those churndash squares .
|
I love to see WIP, thank-you for taking the time to post pics.

I think it would detract if you used two of the turquoise. What about doing some kind of flying geese if you don't get a 4th color and then work in the green square block into the design somehow. Just an off-the-wall thought and trying to think out of the box. Do you know if there was a 4th colorway fabric...so you aren't tilting at windmills trying to find it?

I think it is so amazing how things work out. My sister called me on my cell a couple weeks ago and I happened to be at Joann's looking for Panda fabric. I mentioned this to her in passing as I was feeling so frustrated about not finding any. We continued our discussion on other issues and it left my mind that I had even mentioned it to her.
Today she called me again, and asked if I still needed panda fabric because she went to a yard sale and right on top of a table was panda fabric with red background! She bought the whole piece because she remembered me mentioning it to her. She is going to send it to me. Here I was fretting over another color.. and here she is in CA, remembering something I wouldn't even have mentioned to her had she not happened to call me just when I was at Joann's. Makes you believe in guardian angels, doesn't it? smilessssssss |
Beautiful fabric love the pandas

Linda, I'm so happy you found another panda fabric! I've been traveling a bit this week and went to every store I could find to see if they had any. No luck, but I'm glad you have a guardian fabric angel :-)
Can't wait to see the finished project! |
What GREAT fabric looks like fun to do!!

Linda, About what size will the quilt be or are you gonna find out as you piece it? It's looking good :D
|
I love it!

Thanks, I was just wondering. It sounds like the perfect size. :D

Sorry for the delay folks, but there's going to be a hiatus while I wait for the new fabric to arrive. Hopefully it will be here by Weds.
In the meantime, I will be thinking about a baby quilt for my niece who's having a shower the end of next month. I Spy for a baby girl coming right up!!! |
