My niece is expecting and requested a quilt, how could I say no :)
And since I bought a whole Fq pack, I made another one for my other great niece

Jan in VA 04-21-2013 08:40 AM

I would, I think.
I'd probably use a much darker aqua or red-orange as a narrow border (cut 1.75") against the blocks and then whatever else you wished for a bit wider border.

I would put a border on too. Aqua would look nice.

grannie cheechee 04-21-2013 08:47 AM

Border!!! It is a beautiful quilt!!!!!

Donna 66 04-21-2013 08:48 AM

I agree on the dark aqua--it would look great. This is going to be really cute.

MartiMorga 04-21-2013 08:50 AM

I think a border would just enhance them, and they are lovely.

thanks for the replies!
how wide of a border? these things are pretty big for babies already, 60" square. (niece requested that size). the squares are 7" unfinished....
Here is a more close up pic. I didn't feel it at first, pink is not my thing, but now they are starting to grow on me :)
The fabric is moda flirt

dunster 04-21-2013 09:01 AM

I don't think every quilt has to have a border, and if yours are already the size you want, then why add one? I think they're lovely as they are.

Diane007 04-21-2013 09:05 AM

Hi

I would put on a small thinner border dark to frame it and then what ever the width of your blocks another border
a lighter shade... I hope we helped...

Quiltngolfer 04-21-2013 09:06 AM

They are beautiful without, but a border would look good too.

Totally agree!!!

Let the binding (the deep orange?) frame it up, as a border would, and keep the eye focusing to the inner squares, and in particular your centre medallion.

NIcely done!

QUILTNMO 04-21-2013 09:16 AM

its very pretty i think a dk border would be nice

QuiltnNan 04-21-2013 10:24 AM

I agree with dunster! I'd use the aqua/blue reads solid in the second quilt that matches the little birds as a binding on both of them. Love that fabric and the idea of using the center block/panel with simple squares around it. So pretty!

Whigrose 04-21-2013 11:13 AM

While I might be inclined to add a border to the top quilt, the second one looks very modern to me. Therefore I would bypass borders and skip right to the binding.

Sweet quilts<3

best,

Borders aren't necessary. How about a contrasting flange between the quilt and the binding?

Peggy Jeanne 04-21-2013 12:06 PM

A border would frame it and show off the pretty patches!

4EVERquilt 04-21-2013 12:25 PM

Yes, border on both, they are sewww pretty!!

Totally agree!! I think a solid color binding in almost any of the colors in the quilt will frame it nicely. I'm kind of seeing the grey used as the inner border as the binding, but at the same time one of the brighter colors make it all pop.

nannyrick 04-21-2013 12:28 PM

I would definitely add a border. Very pretty quilts.

cherisews 04-21-2013 01:14 PM

Because the quilts are already at the size she requested (60"), I would simply bind the quilts with one of the bright colors from the quilts.

BMP 04-21-2013 01:38 PM

I just did this same quilt with these fabrics !!! I love that line ! I am not using a boarder...

Aw, would you please show a pic :)
It would help me decide

BMP 04-21-2013 02:07 PM

I would if I had it, its at the LA shop !! I made if our first grandchild coming in July ....

sew1 04-21-2013 02:49 PM

Would add small red-orange color then 2 inch aqua. Lovely quilts.

debbiemarie 04-21-2013 02:56 PM

I think it would be a clean look to make a narrow white border then a grey border to enhance what you have in the middle.

grandjan 04-21-2013 03:01 PM

Yes, I think I'd put a border on these. They're adorable, and the color combinations are very nice.

nativetexan 04-21-2013 03:42 PM

if it is really a large enough quilt now, it looks fine. just bind it. great fabrics too!!

QuiltnLady1 04-21-2013 04:38 PM

For me, I would put a border on it to showcase the lovely fabrics.

grammysharon 04-21-2013 04:50 PM

It needs a border to tie all the squares on the outside together!

Wanabee Quiltin 04-21-2013 04:54 PM

Yep, I would put a border on it. Audition several colors until you are happy with it.

Dal Lady 04-21-2013 06:12 PM

60 inch square is a good size, but borders really will really frame it nicely. Picking up the aqua or red/orange in a small border would really highlight already very pretty quilts.

nunnyJo 04-22-2013 04:02 AM

to me a quilt isn't finished without a border but then I don't like frameless pics

marigail 04-22-2013 04:12 AM

I think a border would bring everything together and give the quilt a finished look. A narrow border (1 in.) and a wider one perhaps 3 in. would be nice.

QM 04-22-2013 04:14 AM

I think a border would be a good idea, visually.

gabeway 04-22-2013 04:40 AM

I like borders and think they frame our work.

ruck9085 04-22-2013 05:44 AM

Maybe an aqua or teal or a gray?

Fuzzykittenbutt 04-22-2013 05:52 AM

i too would do a combination of a smaller more darkly shaded border followed by a wider border out of white patterned fabric. unless it's already the size you wnat, in which case I think it already looks great too!

Blinkokr 04-22-2013 06:52 AM

Lovely colors, terrific job and thank you for sharing, yes I would do a border
Have a Blessed day
Ellen

Sewfine 04-22-2013 06:58 AM

That is beautiful. Have the Quilter's Mag with the picture on the front cover that I keep starring at. I don't think it needs a border. Just my opinion.
