Here's a quilt I made and quilted for my sis-in-law and her husband for their 25 wedding anniversary. Quilt has wool batting (YUMMY!). This is the first quilt I used wool in, since they raise sheep, it seemed to fit. I now buy it by the roll. It quilts nicely, and is soft-soft-soft! I hear that it also washes up well.

|
Great colors! What pattern did you use. Is wool batting heavy?
|
The pattern is called 'Happy to be Scrappy'. I'm trying to find the magazine that it was in. It's been at least two years ago.
Wool is actually a very light but fluffy batting. It's perfect for the South, since it breathes very well, and is great for summer quilts. I love the texture that it gives, and it is SOOOO soft! It's a dream to quilt on, and I'm a cotton girl. The info I have on it is that there is very little to no shrinkage. |
Shelley I love your scrappy happy quilt, its gorgeous :D

Shelly, I tried wool last year for all the same reasons. It may be washable, but it's NOT dryable, look at my quilt

Oh, Kathy!! I am so sorry!!!
Couple things (and I'm basing this on what I can see in the picture): It appears that there was not much quilting. What was the recommended quilting distance? Were your fabrics pre-washed? It also appears that there was some shrinkage there, too. It also looks like the fabrics went to their normal cotton un-ironed look. Quilting stabilizes the fabric so that it won't wrinkle so bad. When you pulled the quilt apart, what did the batt look like? Did you quilt the second time (different batt) with the same density, and re-wash? If yes, how did that turn out? I'm just trying to find out as I've used this in quite a few quilts. If you happened to get a bad batt, make sure you take it back or talk to the factory. Most are more than willing to track down the problem and find a solution. |
