Thank you everyone for the nice comments. This is a pattern I've always wanted to try so now it is crossed off my 'still-very-long' list.

Yes Red, I did use a design wall plus the pics and it still got confusing. I figured things out as I went along, so no written pattern, just learn-as-you-go. The layout was the 'puzzling' part.

Let's see if I can get this right. I did an 8x8" finished block. For each block....... I cut 2, 2 1/2 x 8 1/2" pieces and 1, 2 1/2 x 4 1/2" piece from one color and 2, 2 1/2 x 2 1/2" pieces from a second color. I used about 26 different colors, cutting enough of each color to make 2 blocks.( except for black, where I cut enough to make extra blocks and to accommodate the black edge pieces). I had 2 1/2" squares left over and added some extra ones to do the scrappy border. Hope I got that correct....I'm not good at explaining directions.

So a 'fun to do' quilt but a lot of 'figuring-out' on the way!!

Thanks for the measurements ranger. I'm going to have to try this. I make baby quilts for charity and this would be so cute!

I think when I do mine, I'm going to make the whole thing square based... seems like it will be less to keep track of... do you think it will alter the finished product too much???

WOW! This is one fabulous quilt! I am going to have to look up the puzzle pattern. Was it hard to do?

    Hey ranger,

Could you double check the piece sizes? I think something might be off, since with your layout, I *think* your strip sizes would give a block 6.5 x 8.5 unfinished. I might be off.

I did a mock up in Excel. The yellow block is with your listed sizes. The green one is the *I think* correct way to get an 8x8 block. Each square is 1" and the darker black line represents the block.
