Quilt homage to the great artist Frida Kahlo
My friend Bernardo is an artist who takes great pleasure and inspiration from the life and art of the Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. On Etsy, I found a vendor who adapts images from Kahlo's art, and prints the images onto white cloth. I bought six of these panes, and assembled them into one big panel to become the center of my quilt. I used the pattern "Dino-MIte" from the Robert Kauffman fabrics website. The solid fabrics are Kona cotton. The floral fabrics are a variety of designers, but I bought all the fabrics from Fabric.com.
The "Dino-Mite" quilt pattern finishes up to measure 46.75" x 54.25 ", so I expanded it to fit a full size bed. My quilter, Cheri Gabrielsen. quilted it using orange thread, which gives a subtle pop of color against the blue Kona cloth used for the sashing.
I gave it to Bernardo yesterday for his birthday. He loves it, and I think this is the best quilt I've made so far.
Thanks for looking.

What an interesting story. I had to read it in it's entirety before looking at the quilt. What a magnificent gesture for a friend. You certainly put a lot of effort into the prep before even making the quilt. Wow. It is a wonderful heirloom.
