To Quilt Or Not To Quilt?

I made this quilt for my 3 yr. old grandaughter. I don't know if I should quilt it or tie it. If I quilt it, should I quilt right over Sunbonnet Sue or around her? Also, Ellary has a 5 yr old brother. I need to make a quilt for him as well. Any ideas on patterns? Thanks. It's always great to have this site to give me expert opinions.

It's beautiful. What a great way to use up scrapes. I actually like the look of tying and if it "fits" the quilt, I say go for it. For my first few years of quilting, that's all I did. If your granddaughter is anxious to get it, then I would go with the quickest method. She's a lucky girl to get such a terrific quilt.

How gorgeous...I love Sue! Great job...lucky little girl. I would quilt around her. There's one at a LQS near me that has quilting around Sunbonnet Sue and tied the 4 corners of each block. Gave it an old fashioned look but Sue still popped.

I'm assuming Sue is appliqued on (I'm assuming since I've never made one of these quilts). If that is the case, I'd do an all over design to make sure the little one can't pull them off and try to stick them in her mouth.
