I have used quilts for window and door covering for years and have been delighted with the results. Your lovely quilt will make a fine addition to your room.

Great idea, quilts can really block the cold. I had a drafty hallway once while living in Canada and I hung a quilt up at the entry to the livingroom and it really kept the warth in and the cold out!

I like the idea of hanging a lining of some type on the window side. In our town I go by a house where they have a double wedding ring quilt hanging with the design side out. It faces west so will get the brunt of the summer sun every day.

Now that creative thinking, out side the box. Love the fall colors too!
Now you have a display wall!

We have been doing that for a couple of years now. We just put hooks (single door) on both sides on the casing, and I sewed rings to one end of the quilt and hung it on those. It's easy to just unhook it and fold over a chair when we want it open. There is a lot of cold air behind these quilts that is NOT coming into the room.

I remember a post from someone who lived above the arctic circle and she made quilts for her windows to insulate the house. When half of the year is in the dark or dusk, it was a great solution and a wonderful way to display her work. Don't need that here in Houston! LOL
