We lost touch with each other for about a year. I kept writing to her but with no response back. Then I received the sad letter that her husband had suddenly passed away during that lapse in our writing. He was very young & she was left with 3 small babies to raise by herself. So it was during that grieving time for her that she did not write. So glad she wrote back to tell me & we kept up the correspondence.Originally Posted by just janet
I'm jealous. I had a pen pal who lived in England when I was 13 years old. We kept in touch for a little over 10 years. She became a nurse. I got married and had a little girl. We exchanged letters through those years and then she suddenly stopped answering my letters. I don't know the reason why. I'm now 83 years old, that was 60 years ago but I still think of her now and then.

I am glad to read that others have long standing pen pals. I have one since I was 12 and another since I was 14. I will be
84 in December. That is almost 72 years for the first one....a German girl who married a Frenchman and has lived in France ever since. The other lived in England. I saw and stayed with them in 1987 while on a trip to Europe.
