I purchased this redwork quilt top on Ebay last year and it has a block that indicates it was started in 1899. I believe this was used as a summer sheet as the edges were hemmed. The thread was extremely strong on the hems, and I had to unpick each stitch one at a time. I had my long-arm quilter, Vivian Abrigg, quilt it using an overall clamshell design. Once the binding was in place, I immediately washed and dried it to get that crinkled look of an old quilt. I love the way it came out. This was a gift to my dearest friend who loves redwork.

112 years and it is finally finished. I wonder if that is a record. It is beautiful. You did a wonderful job with it. Thank goodness you saved it

Very beautiful quilt. I think that the clamshell design was a great choice for the quilting. Lets the redwork "take center stage".
