I vote for with the ring. Somehow it just looks good with it than without it.

Oh yes, that dark ring makes all the difference and enhances your tree beautifully.

I would do a thinner ring in a lighter colour. The thick, dark ring makes me feel claustrophobic. If a thinner, lighter ring isn't possible, I would go without.

I like it without but maybe if the ring was not so thick it would not consume the tree??? :?:

I agree with this answer...yes on a ring, but not so "close in".
Just a bit bigger circumference. pretty! :-D
