    great find...but you are correct...never put fabric on bare wood...the oils will leach into the fabric and cause it to either discolor or rot....

    clean it up and paint really good...then just use plain acid free tissue on the shelves before placing fabric on them!

    Lucky find, really cool!!! I like the shoe box idea too, keeps everything organized and easier to get in and out of the cubbies!!

    I think I would be inclined to go to the hardware store and see what new spray paint type of products might be available to seal/paint that wood. I am not a shelf paperer and I sure wouldnt want to hand paint those tiny holes! Think I'd wait til warmer weather and do it outdoors. What a great find. Have fun filling it up!

    OH my - what a marvelous find!!!!! You could buy some cheap felt to line each cubicle - shouldn't be too expensive to do that....
