Now they are laid out on my carpet. Today I am going to put little numbers and direction stickers, well pinned, to each block so that I can sew all the strips really fast.
Just an idea--what I do when I have a quilt laid out is take a photo of it, number the rows in the photo from the edge, then pick each row up in order. Then I pin a note as to the row # on the top block in each pile. I tape the photo by the sewing machine to double check placement and sew those babies together.

I know it's easier to do what one has always done, but thought I'd toss that in there. ;)

I was looking for a <blushing> emoticon, but I see this one really means oops! Thank you, but I am equally inspired by the members of this board, including barnbum and her gorgeous floral log cabins!

(Do we have a pat-each-other-on-the-back emoticon?)

Oh, the way I mark blocks to be sewn is I number all the rows from A to whatever, and all the columns from 1 to whatever. Then I use Word to enter A1, A2,...B1, B2,... in a table and print in whatever font works best (as large as possible.) I cut the printout so that I have separate pieces of paper, usually about an inch square, for each block, and then I get down on the flower and carefully pin that paper to the upper left corner (always that corner!) of each block, stacking the blocks as I go. Then I start sewing them together, being careful to preserve the numbering and lettering sequence.

Yes, that is the way I do it too. All my rows are sewn together this afternoon. I find if I don't put the pinned row and block number in the upper left hand corner i tend to get confused....and it takes me no time to do it. Then I never make a mistake, no matter what is on TV or my bird is calling, or my husband is trying to talk to me. Now i just have to sew the rows together...but that is for tomorrow while it rains here in NYC.

I think it's an awesome quilt. I have a lot of "leftover fabric" from the many family reunion quilts that I have made and I'm thinking about doing a log cabin quilt, especially since I have a lot of medium to dark fabrics. I'm at least giving it some thought. You did a great job.
