Scrappy Log Cabin
#81
You've inspried me to turn my scraps into lots of scrappy log cabin blocks. Recently one of my granddaughters got engaged and I think I'd like to make her a scrappy log cabin quilt. Might be a good gift for my other granddaughters when they plan to marry but with 8 granddaughters ages 13 - 27 I'm going to need lots of scraps, LOL! May in Jersey

I love the scrappy look but never seem to be able to do them. My friends say I',m too anal and they have been telling me I need to get a big grocery bag throw everything in and whatever I pull out is what gets sewn together. I've tried but still want to match colors.

Well dunster, for a newbie you do some awesome work.
The silverware trays are a great idea. My friend Lu used the same things when doing her Log Cabon quilt and it kept everything nice and organized. She has loaned them to ,e for doing my next quilt which is either Triple Irish Chain or Summer Lake Log Cabin. (Leaning very heavy toward the log cabin) Thanks for all the tips.

Thank you all for your support, as I still consider myself a new quilter and every bit of encouragement is appreciated.
I got the habit of using the silverware trays for storage from Judy Martin's recent log cabin book. I marked each tray with the size of its strip with a small piece of paper taped to the tray. I've used this system previously for log cabins, and it works great. The patches that don't get used in one log cabin stay organized until you make the next one, since the trays can be stacked and stored.

I saw this "Scrappy Log Cabin" quilt in the pictures. Does any one know where I can get the Pattern for it. I'm really crazy about Log Cabins.
I have so many scraps that would be the perfect quilt to use them up in.
Would appreciate any information that I can get.
Thanks so much,
quilter lady

You referenced this site in a different thread, regarding actually using scraps ... I LOVE it! So, I am going to bookmark it, for the simple reason that you showed a lot about organizing scraps ... and you do have a way with fabric ... thanks for jumping in and showing us the ropes.
